Just in. There have been dozens reported as dead in Nice, France. Few details have been released but all major networks are reporting on this. A truck drove into a crowd where people were celebrating Bastille Day. Police fired shots. City on lock down. There had been a fireworks show.

Many are questioning if this involves terrorism. I believe at this point there are more questions than answers.

I don't know the source but this was the only story I saw on google.

** ** ** 39 minutes after original posting. News is now saying they think this was a deliberate act and possibly terror.

The world has become a terrible mess. Perhaps DT can tell the EU about that fence company he has contacted. It seems that the EU is getting hit so hard because it's convenient for the terrorists. ISIS has taken credit saying it's retaliation for one of the senior leaders being killed recently. Sorry for the sarcasm shown above.

Currently (12:19 est) on MSNBC, they're saying 80 dead and 18 critically dead. So bad.

Yes, that is what you get with our wrong foreign policies; all of this comes forth about our meddling in the world; this started way before the Bushes; why do you think 9/11 happened? more people than ever hate our guts; the more drones kill women and children the more revenge; even Bill Maher said so. The worst part is that we dragged in Europe with our stupidities like Iraq and Afghanistan who still have NATO involvement, thus NATO countries because they are not an "island" like Britain and us are now the target. Thank you America, for starting all these wars. I bet if we would have left Hussain and Kadaffi etc.in power then likely we would not have had this mess. Our nation building is an total disaster everywhere. Therefore as example look at Vietnam if we would have won there, likely the situation would be as with Korea; troops there forever to "safeguard" them from communism. Sorry we have the most uneducated politicians in the world about on how the rest of the world thinks and why they want to run their countries not according to an US model. Revenge upon revenge that is what is going on; our revenge for 9/11 is still going on and keeps going on because our politicians want it that way, in order to put the focus of people "of" the real issues of this country.

Of course our nutty politicians immediately jumped onto it; while according to the French, this guy may be just a lunatic and may not have any association with any terrorist group or ISIS. But yeah this again shows that we have stupid leaders in this country who are only active/busy to put themselves in the limelight.

    New York Daily News:

"The terrorist truck driver who killed 84 people in the French Riviera city of Nice was a bitter divorced delivery man with a violent criminal record — but no apparent ties to any religious extremist group. Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel — identified by French media as the 31-year-old Tunisian-born Frenchman shot dead by cops after the Thursday night massacre — was known to police for his lengthy criminal record.

"The delivery man was previously convicted for armed robbery, domestic violence and making threats, and he was once arrested after he fell asleep while driving for work, according to France’s BFM-TV.

"But despite his domestic rap sheet, he was not on any terror watch list, sources told the TV station. The dad of three had no known ties to any terrorist group, and no radical organization has claimed responsibility for his deadly Bastille Day siege.

Neighbors called him “depressed and unstable, even aggressive” — all qualities she chalked up to his relationship problems.

Another neighbor said Bouhlel was "more into women than religion. He (didn't) pray and like(d) girls and Salsa."

It does not appear that he is an ISIS terrorist, or even an ISIS inspired terrorist. He is just another of the many immigrants into France that have not been assimilated and feel marginalized...a product of France's colonial past, and a failure of their government and culture to help immigrants assimilate into French society.

My view not necessarily shared by others...

Yes Schmidt you are correct; except our leaders refuse to do the same research as you do!

Just an little history: The French used to have colonies all around the Mediteranian sea like: Tunisia, Marocco, Libya , Algeria as well west West Africa, like Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon etc.. After Napoleon and WWII there has been an enormous influx in France of these people. However certain laws in France forbid Muslims to wear their cultural gear as well quite a few other Muslim customs. The situation is similar as here as with the "blacks" but then with the Muslims. From origin the French were always the cornerstone of the Catholics, especially under the inquisition. The Catholic cathedrals testify to that. Thus Muslims and Catholics don't mix very well, just like here. Thus no wonder that this happened. (Could have happened any time) However our "leaders" should realize that it is not only ISIS what drives it, but pure "religion" is the cause as it has been for centuries.

This disparity is beginning to "boil over" due to our ISIS etc. wars and gets way too much attention, such drives up this century's long problem to the surface, especially via modern media.

In the US which never had the crusades, nor the inquisition, nor real colonies, nor religious wars on their soil, it is difficult for people here living in an country which is barely 300 years old to understand Europe which is thousands of years old.

Dutch -- You are, of course, aware that many of the religious extremists that we have in the USA had their roots in Europe. They fled Europe for a home in the USA back in the 17th century.

Library of Congress: Religion and the Founding of the American Republic

You can browse the website and draw whatever conclusions you like. It was a time of religious turmoil, and the USA ended up with much of the various flocks fleeing Europe. Then it was mostly various Christian factions.

Now we have on a global scale the plight of Muslims fleeing persecution.

I'll piggy back on Schmidt's posting. There's no such thing as an American other than the native people who lived here for thousands of years before Europeans crossed the seas, stole the land, and gave the people living here small pox infested blankets. USA! USA!

Your Dutch ancestors weren't any better. They stole land from the Native Americans in what is modern day New York City. They called it New Amsterdam. They also stole land in vast swaths of the Northeast which they called New Netherland.

Any person that has any type of Caucasian heritage has roots from the European continent. That's just a fact.

Any ancestor of a fighter who heeded Pope Urban II’s plea to go to war against Muslim forces in the Holy Land who now lives in America may (or may not) understand European history. The same goes with ancestors of a fighter in the Hundred Years' War between England and France. The list goes on and on (and on).

The great thing about the United States is that we are the first genuine melting pot country. There is no other country on this planet that has people of every single nationality living alongside each other and I challenge you to come up with one.

All of recorded human history is tens of thousands of years old. Borders were invisible for much of that time. Wars were fought. Religions were created. And a hell of a lot of people died from dysentery.

Jared as always you don't seem to understand; it is exactly like I wrote; indeed this country has no culture or thousands of years history. Immigrants living here did not continue in adhering to the culture of their country of origin except may be their religion. However in Europe each country still speaks their own language and have their own culture. Here only their religion has become more fanatic, while in Europe religion is much more pushed to the background; only few young people attend church there. The culture here, because this is an "island" has deteriorated to an "redneck" mentality like the Trump gang and gun toting beer drinking idiots. If 50% votes for Trump, then that is an tell tale about the culture here. Sick indeed.

You are also wrong about your "melting pot" statement, European countries did have many colonies; people from those colonies mixed with all of these countries; England, France, The Netherlands has plenty, because they had the most/largest colonies but smallest country size compared to here. Right now it is even worse with all the Syrians, Somali's, Libya, Iraqi etc. people. In the Netherlands just as an example mix; plenty Molukan/Indonesian people from Indonesia; (my wife was born there) (Ex-Dutch colony) from Suriname (ex-Dutch colony) from 6 Carribean Islands, still Dutch. From Maroc, from Poland, Slovenia, Romenia (all the ex USSR countries) right now the real Dutch people are just about in the minority on this postage stamp size country.

Most Scandinavian countries don't have that problem, because they had only very few colonies.
