House Democrats have taken over the House Floor in protest over Republicans refusal to stand up to the NRA and allow even the most incontrovertible gun control measure to get a vote. The Republicans have shut off the microphones and ordered C-Span cameras to be turned off, but at least they've kept the lights on....so far.

I applaud the Democrats even through I am skeptical anything will come of this other than some extra press. Republicans would never, ever vote on anything their masters in the NRA tell them not to. Their campaign contributions are far more important than making sure we figure out a way to stop the seemingly daily mass shootings in this country.

Unlike a Senate filibuster, which is conducted while the Senate is in session by essentially a single Senator with a bit of help in questioning by his supporters, this House sit-in, led by Rep. John Lewis, is not a part of the House business. The chair has called the House into recession because of the sit-in. So it is not a part of official business.

Hence with multiple participants that can come and go as they please (assuming the doors are not locked at some point), this sit-in could go on for days. Maybe Speaker Ryan will call in the Capitol police to have them physically removed. Ha! Wouldn't that be something...good for publicity.

    Some good Tweets.

"Thank you John Lewis for leading on gun violence where we need it most." -- President Obama

"We’ve voted >60 times on repealing the Affordable Care Act, but can't get one vote on gun violence? Really?" -- Rep Ed Perimutter

It's past midnight in Washington DC and the sit-in continues. Republicans are on the wrong side of history here. John Lewis has spoken eloquently about the mission, and people are responding by supporting the sit-in with a protest gathering outside the Capitol. Don't know where this is headed, but Speaker Ryan probably wishes he hadn't taken the job now.

All he has to do is schedule a vote on two measures. That's all they are asking. I guess the NRA has said no.

One word: NUTS. None of any of these proposals make any difference in gun violence. I wished someone has the guts to state that the "second amendment" was only applicable for "flintlocks" nothing else. The truth hurts.

Paul Ryan simply adjourned the House at 3:00 am this morning rather than schedule a vote on the two gun safety measures. They will be adjourned until after the 4th of July holiday. By leaving on their holiday two days early, all planned House activities for the two days (as well as the Wednesday sit-in day) has been put off until the House returns.

    House Calendar

That's the way Speaker Paul Ryan does business. Can't face the opposition? Simply close shop and go home.

Schmidt; Don't worry this is all "show" and nothing of substance; even if they get their way it is useless; the supreme "bullshit" court just disapproved an immigration issue bill by a vote of 4 by 4. So again an lame duck bunch of "nothings"

A filibuster is an order of law. A sit in is illegal. Absolutely nothing will come of this accept more polarizing of a country that the last thing needed before this election is more disruptive behavior. I hope Bernie succumbed to peer pressure to include him in this sit in.

Chet, the whole thing went out like an hot air balloon; anyway an "no fly list" is stupid; most of these idiots don't want to fly anyway. This government and its cronies are nuts.
