Draw a big red circle around May 3, 2016 on your calendars because that is the day the Republican Party dealt a fatal blow to itself by choosing a misogynist racist as their Presidential nominee. If I believed in God, I would be thanking him (or her) for giving the Democrats the gift of a lifetime.

This campaign is over before it's even started and the next question is how badly he will screw over the Republican Party down ticket. I have a feeling this year is going to be a bloodbath for Republicans and that they won't be able to recover from this mess that they've gotten themselves in for many years.

American politics has swung like a pendulum throughout our history. The Republicans have had their fun since the Reagan revolution, but the Republicans dealt the final death knell to that revolution last night.

I raise my glass to their self imposed destruction.

Sorry, I wrote that wrongly. Of course as Jared would say the Constitution protect us from that. Wow. I'll ask Bush.

How many "wars" are we involved right now? Napoleon would be proud of us, his French "Constitution" worked fine for him, the same as ours. Better start an huge gun collection, you may need it; the Constitution says so. Ha Ha.

Jared -- Yes for now the Republicans have dealt themselves a knife wound that will take some time to recover from. However, that time period may only extend to 2018, the dreaded midterm elections, in which liberals (and some Republicans) do not vote. In fact, if Republicans engage in the kind of filibustering and use of the Hastert Rule again that they did from 2009 to 2016, then it'll be difficult to get anything accomplished.

Having said that, what the Republicans are experiencing is blowback from their stated policies to undermine the Obama presidency. While the intent was to sabotage President Obama, it also undermined trust in our entire government, Republicans included. Donald Trump is capitalizing on the repercussions of the tactics of the Party of No....blowback.

Maybe the lesson will be learned in 2017 leading up to the midterm. And maybe not. Hate is a powerful emotional force.

Yes Schmidt, you seem to be the only one who see things "clearly" the way they are. Indeed all of this plays into Trumps hands. He thrives on it. His "chameleon" tactics work as well for him. Read my other piece as well about what the Dutch newspaper published.

Schmidt, Trump knows on how to play the game. For instance he made sure that all his "dirt" is covered up; have you seen much "dirt" published on the news about him. Indeed very little. I did get hold of some very "exposing" things, but of course I can't get it copied, because they put a "block" on it. Like I have a picture where Melani stands "naked" repeat "naked" on the steps of his private jet, while 7 month pregnant. He sits in one of the most expensive Mercedes coupe you can get. He's got an special team to make sure non of the "dirt" leaks out to the media. In the meantime he's busy digging up all the dirt about the Clintons, which is in the public domain thus easy to get.

I'm well aware of the difficulties of getting much of anything done if the Republicans continue their blockade of all legislation, but that's not my main concern. My main concern is swinging the Supreme Court back to the left and we can only do that if we win in November.

Democratic appointees already have a majority in the vast majority of District and Appellate Courts, but we have the chance of a lifetime (seriously, my entire lifetime) to swing the Supreme Court to a liberal majority. If we win in November then the next President will surely replace RBG and Justice Breyer with people forty years their junior. Justice Kennedy is also 79 years old and we saw how quickly a seemingly healthy justice can die out of nowhere back in February.

I have lost much faith in the legislative process these past few years, but the one thing I have kept my eye on President Obama's ability to reshape the courts in his image. And if we win in November then Democrats will be able to reshape the courts for the next generation.

Yes, sadly even the courts have become politicized. I agree with you that perhaps the most important reason to elect a Democrat is the Supreme Court. If nothing else gets passed in Congress, at least the Republicans will have to eventually act on one or more SCOTUS nominations.

Schmidt, indeed everything here is politicized. The whole government system here needs to be reviewed related to efficiency as well if certain departments are only just "employment" set ups. Let's buy some more parts for WWII planes. Sorry our government is "broken" and just one big "waste" bucket. We don't need a SCOTUS in the present form; just common sense should rule , not tons of paper explaining what they did in 1776. Simplification and "need" should be the goal not adding department after department and let it grow to powerblocks like the Pentagon, CIA, FBI, NSA, TSA etc.

As an example; my wife travels to Europe; she pays for a "one" way ticket to there about 35% TSA/tax cost. The return ticket however has more than 65% TSA/tax cost. Thus who is the rip off country? The TSA makes fortunes on international traffic, while they reduce the number of employees; thus another hidden goldmine for the government, which they will certainly waste on a "no return" benefit to the public. In the meantime my wife is waiting for the renewal of her "green card" already for a year while she paid already $450.- for it a year ago. The government agent just says; they throw it on the stack of all applications including "new" applicants. Talking about efficiency. But yeah no one blinks if they acquire an Plane of $200 million a piece which ends up costing $400 million a piece and still does not work as specified. Sorry this whole government is a total joke, including Trump. We are the laughing stock of the world. WE need a revolution as Bernie said.
