Why don't the billionaires pledging to give their wealth away invest in USA jobs. Crime and violence is associated with poor economic conditions. Investing billions in creating jobs would start an improvement.

Chet, you should know better; "greed" will never go away. If they give away money, they'll make sure that they can keep their yachts etc. or add to it. Creating jobs will not change the mentality in this country; "jobs" are not always the means to be a "happy" person. A job is required because the society says so. I think the priority should be family happiness, which of course can be realized by having a satisfactory job, which gives food and a roof above your head. However I think "cavemen" without a job, were happier than a lot of people nowadays.

Billionaires giving money away is a good thing because there's nothing suggesting that it shouldn't go to your ex-spouse and kids. Americans can build anything of course. Unions helped to raise wages and bring benefits which is great. However there are a lot of unemployed factory workers who once got high wages. Bob Billionaire doesn't care about the big picture which is why he won't bring back a factory here. Why pay a solid wage plus benefits, and over time pay when yesterday you were getting slave wages. Why deal with the EPA when instead you hand some cash to a politician and problem solved. The cost of shipping a 40' container load (up to 45000lbs/2000+ cft) of widgets from China to Chicago is about 4,500.00 - 5,000.00 usd. All other manufacturing costs were 95% lower (thank you slaves). My point is it doesn't cost a lot to import freight and it happens so much that you can get the goods in 20 - 23 days. Bob B. can save Billions in manufacturing (if they make and sell enough widgets) and then donate 200 million to charity. Some would call Bob a great guy.

"Some would call Bob a great guy."

Take the best upright honest generous middle class person and the worst factory moving wage lowering entitlement cutting billionaire and guess who the town would pick to get the key to the city.

I'd venture to say that Bill Gates and the like are doing exactly that by pledging to give their billions away instead of giving them away as an inheritance for their family members. They are promising to do things that our government is unable or unwilling to do and they should be commended for it.

Every single billionaire can give away 100% of their money and there will still be crime and violence in this country. The GDP of America is over $16 Trillion dollars. Pool all of those billionaires money up and you don't even get $1 trillion. And what happens when we take that $1 Trillion away from them and don't have anyone else to turn to once we spend that money?

This is more complicated than blaming rich people for everything that's wrong in the country. Jobs are different now than they were before the technological revolution. One robot can now do tasks that took dozens of humans to do. That pisses a lot of people off, but I hope they know that technology is only going to get more and not less advanced as we move forward.

We can all bitch and moan about it, or we can learn to adapt to this rapidly changing world. I've chosen to take the path of adaptation instead of bitching and moaning.
