I've always thought it was ironic that the NRA and their pawns in the Republican Party insist that a "guns everywhere" approach is what would make America safe, but then refuse to allow people to bring their guns into anything hosted by them or the Republican Party. If they think guns make everyone safer then why not allow guns at their events?

A recent (albeit faux) petition to allow attendees at the 2016 Republican National Convention to open carry has garnered tens of thousands of signatures, but Republican Party wants nothing to do with it. The NRA has also been eerily silent, as well.

So I wonder why the NRA and the Republican Party think that guns make us safer, but are scared to allow people who attend their events to bring their guns in with them.

Do as I say, not as I do. jaredsxtn, now for the first time we should examine what is behind the GOP's supporting of gun rights. I have always been alerted at things that don't make sense. Republicans supporting of gun rights has never made sense. If they are in fact banning guns from the convention that absolutely blatantly contradicts allowing citizens to freely own guns. Logically gun rights would be a Democratic freedom and Republicans would want them banned. I assure you that Republican support for gun rights has an alterior motive other than a rank and files perception of security. Republicans have no use for citizens able to resist anything.

The Secret Service will ban guns from the convention. Case closed.

Oh, I know. This was more of a tongue in cheek post.

I just think it's funny how the Republicans love open carry laws so much, but change their tune whenever they are hosting a big conference.

No national-level Republican figures advocate "open carry" do they?? State politicians do -- like state politicians in Oklahoma, TX and so forth. National level politicians are simply keeping their ear to the railway track & parroting what they hear "out there". Why would you expect more -- do you think these guys are authentic?

This shows again that this country is still in the cowboy and Indian stage; I suggest to give free guns to toddlers so they can shoot their GOP parents.

Some fights you can win easily, some you take a few hits. Some you get beat up pretty bad, have no chance of winning and lose more every time you start. I have always believed and still do believe gun control is an unwinnable costly damaging fight for the Democratic Party. When Bill Clinton was running against Bush/Quayle I campaigned for him as a business owner in a very heavily conservative republican service retiree Navy Base town. When he got elected and paraded the assault weapons ban I thought what an idiot I wasted my time on. So let's look at how well the party has done with gun control. There were only 9 states that had will issue concealed carry permits in 1985. 30 years later with aggressive Democratic Gun Control positions all the states now issue concealed carry permits. 45 states have open carry laws. Bill Clinton even says gun control costs Democrats votes. Schmidt says politicians should not campaign unattainable promises.
