Huffington Post, March 3, 2016: Mitt Romney Lambasts Donald Trump As A 'Phony' And 'Fraud' In Blistering Speech

Mitt Romney, playing the role of party elder and statesman jumped into "Trump land" today blasting Donald Trump:

"Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud," he said at the University of Utah. "His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He's playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House, and all we get is a lousy hat."

There's more, but that's one of the lines being highlighted by the media. It was a formal carefully planned speech read from a teleprompter. Of course there are other Republicans speaking out as a part of the Stop Trump movement. It just goes to show what lengths the party establishment is going to stop Trump from winning the nomination.

I wonder, though, that at this late date if Romney is offering up himself as the alternative nominee if Trump has not obtained 50 percent of the delegates by convention time. At a contested convention there are several rounds of voting in which delegates are no longer bound to their candidate from the primaries or caucuses.

The Republican establishment hates Ted Cruz almost as much as they hate Trump. And Rubio is a light weight. Only Kasich is left, but he faired so poorly since entering the contest a long time ago, he will also be regarded as weak.

So Mitt Romney rides in on his "white horse" to save the day.

    Just a wild thought...

Schmidt, I'd venture a guess that the majority of Trump supporters don't know who Romney is let alone that he ran against Obama and lost. All they see in Romney is a paid mouthpiece representing special interests. On the other hand these same people believe you can't be as bad as described without the consent of those criticising. The people Trump described as ruining the country are riding in on their white horses to save the very country they abused. And here is an easy to debunk fallacy. "They" say that Trump taxing imports will cause higher prices here. The fallacy is there's no margin to absorb the tax. Intuition tells that foreign countries don't set prices as a function of cost. They set prices just under prices here. They will cut prices to keep this market. In essence they will be paying our income taxes.

Just lets hope the GOP implodes; then Drumpf can start a new venture like a B.S. school for GOP hypocrites.

I don't think it's a wild thought at all, but if there's a contested convention then the Democrats may as well start measuring the drapes for the White House because Trump will likely mount a third party run and his supporters will gladly follow him.

Mitt Romney blasting Donald Trump three years after he begged for his endorsement is sheer political pandering and Trump called him out for it yesterday. The Republicans created this mess and now they are going to have to live with it. They are in a lose-lose situation no matter what they do now.
