It was the "last honorable and honest Republican" who warned America, in his "farewell" speech, about the dangers of the "Military Industrial Complex". He recognized how its growth would damage our whole economy, & skew the ways our money would be spent, --- pursuing war, weapons of mass destruction, building more military battleships & bombers and missiles, & developing more dangerous arsenals of Atomic & Hydrogen bombs. It made us a strong powerful nation, in the eyes of most of the world, but to many others, it made us a hated enemy, & a number one Target.
The last honorable & honest Republican, was -- (General) Dwight David Eisenhower, who was President of the United States in the 1950's ---- and he recognized (and told) the Truth. I am sure you can find that speech on "youtube". But because he told the Truth, about the dangers of power and greed, --- & the lure of warfare, as almost a romantic adventure, to show off their strength & bravery in battle, & win the romance of any susceptible female within radar range. People romanticized war & conquest & victory, while minimalizing the true cost in bloodshed & devastation. Eisenhower saw the accumulation of these attitudes, & foresaw what it would lead to. The Military Industrial Complex would become a gigantic Industry, & it would feed on itself, growing endlessly larger. Any big industry that glorified WAR, would NOT be interested in PEACE.
People would quickly forget the Judeo-Christian ideals of Peace and Love and Charity. They would forget what a Great and Wonderful thing it would be if the United States could LEAD in PEACE-KEEPING (via -- The United Nations) -- & by that ideal, we could put an end to War.
Quickly, the GOP corporate Greed, had already grasped what an immense "gold mine" they would have, if they could harness the weapons supply chain, the jeeps & tanks mfrg outlets, the bomber factories, providers of uniforms, makers of bullets and hand grenades. Endless factories working 24/7 to supply endless troops, marching along in unison, forever.
---- So President Eisenhower ("I Like IKE" was his campaign button), gave his very important "farewell" speech at the end of his presidency. He TOLD THE TRUTH. And the RESULT of THAT ONE IDEALISTIC GIFT (the speech) that HE GAVE TO US ALL --- well, you won't believe it. ----- (I'll be back SOON).
