Why isn't the first amendment scrutinized like campaign financing. The financing of lobbyist has more effect on the laws that govern us than does the financing of Presidential elections. All the propaganda about the importance of voting is lost when considering how the effect of lobbying is the last word on laws for the people.

Chet, Bernie tries to change that, however regardless if he wins, he'll never gets it done. The stronghold of the GOP and its 1% will block every effort, with "money" and "lobbyists". This is a "baked" in "ingrown" toenail.

Dutch, Hillary is happy with Obama Care. Poor people cannot afford Obama care. The ones that have it can't use it because of the co pay and deductibles. Regardless of subsidies poor people don't have the facility to work the system to get help. They are told they are being helped but they don't get help. They are getting fed up. Then they are being turned into indentured debtors with college educations approaching $200,000. The finance world has hit the jackpot with the government guaranteed NINJA student loans. College people now owe the finance organizations 1.2 trillion dollars which is guaranteed by the Government. Why are NINJA loans again killing the country, and how did the finance companies get the government to guarantee the 1.2 trillion dollars. Bernie is tapping into the growing resentment of the common people. I think he can win and I think he can get his revolution. If he starts talking about the government guaranteed NINJA loans I think he will get a landslide of support. But I don't know who and how those loans got into existence. I am looking into that now. I can see a lot of innocent people supporting the student NINJA loans.

Chet, I haven't got a clue how all of that works; I had my education in Europe so I never had to loan money for it. furthermore got free education from the company I worked for; got all kinds of studies all over the place while being paid , like at Rolls Royce England to know all the in's and out's of jet engines; also all the aircraft engineering and construction even simulator time and customer interface, as well contracting process of aircraft and its interfaces including contract legal stuff. At least I can't complain, because I had a great time studying and traveling. So I can't judge what they are doing here.

I like to add that I observed that people here are educated in only one direction; seldom they have a "broad" view or understanding of the world and its culture or behavior or structure. Mostly they start at "z" and never end up at "a"

Poor people in red states can not afford Obamacare. Nearly all red states decided to not expand Medicaid after the Supreme Court ruled they didn't have to. The vast majority of blue and swing states did expand Medicaid and their people are reaping the benefits.

The vast majority of poor and lower middle class people, even in red states that didn't expand Medicaid, are able to receive a discount on their monthly health insurance premiums. The rate is based off of the federal poverty line and number of dependents. People who don't qualify for Medicaid, but don't make enough to afford health insurance, receive this discount.

I don't think people who no longer can be denied health coverage for any reason under the sun are "getting fed up." The single mom who has depression because her husband left her with two young kids can no longer be denied coverage and the fifty year old man with Type II diabetes can no longer be denied coverage.

If anyone should be upset, it's me. I make too much to qualify for any financial assistance, but you don't see me crying about my monthly premium going from $50 to $300. You know why? Because I can afford it. Those who can't afford it are able to get help either through Medicaid or discounts. Those who can need to suck it up and chip in because it's people like them who screw everything up for the rest of us. They think they are invincible until they have an accident that puts them in the hospital for three weeks. Who do you think pays for those three weeks if that person didn't have insurance? The fair god mother?

I don't know what any of this has to do with the 1st Amendment.

"I don't know what any of this has to do with the 1st Amendment." It has to do with the lobbying supporting the loans and getting the government to guaranteeing the loans.

The Reality of Obama Care for poor people is that they don't have the facility or luxury to take advantage of the subsidies. The lobbying effort for Obama Care had zero support from poor people asking for help. If you went from 50 to 300 dollars on your premiums why are there not zero premiums with no red tape for poor people? Contrarily big Pharma was represented by lobbyist through out the entire process.

Yes, they do! That is the entire point of Medicaid expansion and subsidies. People who can't afford coverage get help. There is zero doubt about that.

I get it. Our health care system is pretty messed up, but you can't blame President Obama for that. He is the first President to to get the Congress to pass a law that guarantees a private company can't deny health coverage to anyone for any reason they come up with. Why can't you admit that's a "big fucking deal"?

Chet Ruminski Wrote:The lobbying effort for Obama Care had zero support from poor people asking for help.

This just isn't true. Millions of poor people asking for help were and are happy with Obamacare.

There are zero premiums with no red tape for poor people. It's called Medicaid.

I'm no fan of Medicare Part D, but President Obama recognized that he had to work with the pharmaceutical industry if he wanted Congress to pass a bill.

Seniors love their government handouts, but hate government handouts for anyone else. The best way to get them on board was to make sure they knew they could continue to get all of their "free" drugs.

Poor people don't take advantage of help. No matter what the facts are red tape and procedures prevent poor people from taking advantage of benefits.

Because so many states rejected the expansion, two-thirds of poor blacks and single mothers and more than half of low-wage workers who are currently uninsured in the United States are left without insurance, according to an analysis by the New York Times.

Jared, your statement that you are not too fond of Medicare part D, that is correct. Obama really got screwed by the pharma industry. For instance I noticed a lot of medications went way up. My wife uses a certain nose spray, for 2016 it doubled in price. There is no one in this industry who does not get rich over the backs of retired people etc. Our governor Scott became a millionaire thanks to the healthcare industry, We've got some doctors in our community, who don't drive old chevy's either.

Yes it is a corrupt industry; no one in the government dares to check the real cost of producing any medicine. If you want to run an "sound" healthcare program then you should cover all the bases. Also all the adds on TV for "pills"drives you nuts, including the "kickbacks" to the doctors who "sell" all this stuff. IT IS CRIMINAL. That is why I call this country "pill" nation.

Take some "pills" then use your "gun" or run your car up an lightpole.

Is that Obama's or the Republicans fault? Obama didn't tell those red states to screw their citizens over. The Supreme Court allowed those red states to screw their citizens over and they promptly followed suit.

You can't blame Obama for the fact that Republicans would rather watch their own citizens suffer instead of being perceived as giving President Obama a "win."

jaredsxtn, Not blaming Obama, I am blaming politicians for using incrementalism to keep score and claim legacies based on word association. I have more respect for Obama than any other President except FDR. For anybody to take that job after 2008 they would have to be unbelievably self assured and generous. There was nothing to gain in 2008 except the chance to prove the impossible . No other President had so many unfavorable conditions threatening their Presidency before they were even sworn in.

Even over the counter drugs are skyrocketing. I use generic OTC Nexium and it is now approaching the cost of the Prescription Name Brand.
