The GOP members are very upset that an sailor apologized by entering Iranian waters. These GOP idiots still think that we run the world and can just do whatever we like. For instance our stupidity to continually irritate certain nations by provoking them all the time. Like China we buzz their artificial islands, we buzz the N. Koreans with a B52 bomber, then we play games and have plenty of battle ships close to Iranian waters to irritate them. Our attitude is surely appreciated all over the world and they love us for it. In the case of the sailor apologizing; he did the right thing; the US has no business being in Iranian waters, for whatever reason. The "warmongers" will disagree. It is time that this country realizes that it is not the only country in the world who can dictate others. We've already proven many times that we failed in all our wars since WWII and started way too many of them for the wrong reasons and never learned from it. Keep it up America, it will be your downfall. It is our attitude and arrogance which will create new wars, just like we have not enough of them at the moment.

I am so thankful that we have leaders like Obama and John Kerry who can engage in diplomacy and avoid a potential war. I shudder to think what the reactions of a President Donald Trump would have been. We thankfully still have the bad memories of President George W. Bush and his warrior VP Dick Cheney taking us into a war in which the evidence was "manufactured".

One official commentator was very critical of the sailors. Besides asking why the boats didn't call for help, the running boat tow the other boat, he wanted to know why the sailors didn't put up a fight. I spent most of my time in the Navy on boats like that. I know that even if the boats were authorized to have the weapons with ammunition in them, if somebody pulled the trigger and fired even one round they would have been the focus of a real #*#* storm. But for two small boats to be operating independently like that is really unusual. So unusual that it raises a lot of questions in my mind. So far the News hasn't identified the unit or ships those boats were operating from. Every round of ammunition is accounted for, who and why a round is used. Boats like that don't run around with loaded weapons unless specifically authorized to do so. Additionally they are tracked and plotted just like airplanes. There are a lot of unanswered questions. Almost like they were ordered to do go there and fake the whole operation. Additionally this boats are loaded with the best most sophisticated communication equipment. Right now some Navy Officer's career is on the line and there is a lot of behind the scene's jockeying for a cover up or shifting responsibility of command of those boats.

Here is a conversation that is impossible in the command and operation in the Navy. Question: "Where are the two riverine boats?" Answer: "I don't know!" I think something fishy is going on.

Chet regardless of your questions; my question is, why do we get way too close to Iranian waters? Normally it is about 12/14 miles, so our Navy shit should then stay at least 20 miles of land or beacons, in order to avoid mistakes like this. Like you describe it may have been a typical like: "see how far we can go attitude" When are we growing up and learn not to play with fire or start fires.

Dutch, I suspect you're right. I think we were pushing the envelope and it bit us in the ass. My initial thought was crazy. I thought send in a medium sized bomb. Crazy I know but I thought they should be punished. My next thought was what would Vlad Putin do if a Russian ship was captured. I'll bet there wouldn't have been an apology or any admission of wrong doing. I imagine they would have sent about 30 aircraft in (that day) and the damage would have been excessive. I'm not suggesting that we aspire to be like Russia but the idea that Iranian persons who commonly chant "Death to America" are smirking at our pitiful little apology.

Who knows why it happened but it almost had to be planned. A boat can't drift very fast or far so those boats had to be right on the line.

one wonders when countries will stop waving their dicks around. why does it seem that countries who are either so-called superpowers or are on the decline are more concerned with dick waving as well as dick measuring?

Chet, just turn the story around; can you imagine if a Russian attack ship anchors a few miles from Malibu Beach, what then will happen? Sorry we are the stupid one's who don't play by the rules.

Can't figure out who would want what kind of results for causing an international incident with these two boats. But I am 99% sure that it was not an accident that those two boats ended up in Iranian waters. Here is the red flag. Those boats have a crew of five. One of the Crew was a full Commander graduated from Annapolis. Why would a full commander be on a 50 foot boat. Lot of things don't add up. They have backed away from the drifting into Iranian waters scenario.
