North Korea claimed it successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb, but experts from multiple countries are questioning their claim. A hydrogen bomb is far more powerful than a typical nuclear bomb and would have created a more powerful seismic event, but that doesn't mean North Korea's claim should just be shrugged off because the country definitely detonated a nuclear device. We just don't know if it was a hydrogen bomb.

Kim Jong-un's motives are unclear, but I don't think we need to be worried about North Korea initiating a nuclear strike on the west coast any time soon. He is most likely trying to consolidate his power and prove that he is a strong leader to his military generals and the citizens of North Korea. Attacking America would mean the end of his power (and life), so I have a hard time thinking he's that stupid.

Indeed as long as we negate him and concentrate more on our own problems nothing will happen. But if we leave it up to the Trump types, then start building bomb shelters at your house. Anyway look at the stock market lately, I would be more worried about that anyway as well our elections and the mess in the middle east; oil prices etc. (affecting also that region); which all together are moving in the wrong direction. 2016 is going to be a traumatic year for sure.

Dutch, When you look at the stock market today remember that there are still big winners in the decline.

Does the fact that hydrogen offers a more powerful bomb exclude the possibility of a small hydrogen bomb. Or is the smallest possible hydrogen bomb larger than than other bombs. I will research that.

As Quartz explained earlier, even a miniature hydrogen bomb is unlikely to be of a similar magnitude to an atomic bomb. So if the calculations are correct, today’s nuclear bomb test was simply too small to be a hydrogen bomb.
