As we sit around the table enjoying all the smells, tastes and cheer and before we fill our belly's, let's remind our selves of our bountiful appreciations for the things we are most thankful for in our lives. For it is proclaimed by George Washington that November 26 is the day of Thanksgiving.

Reading this proclamation was indeed a tribute to our nation during hard times and struggling to become a success. I give thanks to George Washington for establishing this holiday and a chance to be united with family, friends and give thanks to life and harvest.

I thank God most of all and first foremost in my life. I give thanks second to America my country the United States. In third, I give thanks to my family and friends that have supported me with enjoyment and support. Lastly, I give thanks to the future blessings and my life. So, help me God, THANK YOU!

Now lets eat hardy and drink till the cup no longer runneth over! Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm glad that you thank an invisible never talked to human invented "God" thing; I guess he is also feeding the 50,000 homeless veterans; as well this God thing "blessed" all the millions of poor turkeys who wanted to live a little longer. I'll just have some croissants.

The topic of discussion on many Republican Thanksgiving tables will likely be President Obama and how he is the "worst president ever"...a secret Muslim, so un-Christian, un-American, no family values and blah, blah, blah. Christian men will bow in prayer before the meal, stuff themselves at Thanksgiving dinner until they have to loosen their belts, and then retire to the living room with their beer and wine to watch football while the women in the household clean up and wash the dishes.

Where is Obama today? He and Michelle along with Sasha and Malia can be found at the local homeless shelter feeding the homeless and otherwise giving them encouragement. This is what the Obama's do every Thanksgiving and Christmas as well, for as long as I can remember...helping out and feeding those that have been less fortunate.

"Those Obamas are just so Un-American..."

You know, there is a lot of truth to that statement.

The God President Washington worshiped is far different than the God the Republican Party worships. President Washington most likely never thought America would become an empire that goes to war in far off nations to quench our insatiable thirst for a black goo.

President Washington would also be upset with you for suggesting we should void the Constitution and declare martial law in the name of keeping America safe. The whole point of the new country was to have a government of, by, and for the people; not a police state.

I'm sorry, but I honestly believe that President Washington would be absolutely ashamed of the type of country we have become. He fought to make this a representative democracy, but we have become an oligarchy in a little over two hundred years since he was President.

To think of who or someone would of done in todays politics and lifestyles from so far in past history is tainted with the very change in life. It is impossible to making judgments on what Washington would of done today. The only common sense thinking is forward thought with lessons from the past. Those rules in the past however noble and just may be, are useless with the current complexity of life. Washington didn't have to concern himself with the Middle East, Russia, China or more countries that represent half of this world. Washington didn't have to concern himself with the high murder rates, scores of corruption, human trafficking, weapons of mass destruction, the many denials of freedom. Washington gave America a great start in forming a country and its politics. I'd say that Washington if alive today would throw-up and relinquish his reign to the British. Washington would say, he made plans, but it appears nobody listened, so, you British can have it and see if you can do better. Washington would quit and just go swimming during the river crossing. Yes, it's bad, but I see where our Constitution will be suspended is ISIL attacks America again. Warrantless searches, citizen roundups, and martial law will be the order on our cities, towns and states. I hate to see it happen, but these things will take place to avoid continued attacks by terror. America is ripe for this to happen and how do I think that...........it's the current propaganda being propagated in our media. Big George Washington is tossing and turning in the grave each day on our countries direction. He's probably mad at himself for not realizing how society would evolve.

It's so sad that you haven't spent any time studying the history of human civilization. I encourage you to do so. You might learn something new for once.

If you feel so endowed with credible knowledge of George Washington and KNOW with accuracy how George would feel about current America, I would be thrilled to read it. So, if you can perceive the development of human civilization over the ages (say the past 250 years) than you can surely look ahead and report with similar accuracy how you or your buddy George Washington would feel about 250 years in the future. To judge George on how he would react with today's problems and current American society is just unbelievable. About the only thing for certain is the same in George's time as it is today, women still give a birth naturally (but there are medical breakthroughs......don't tell George that men will be having babies in the future), we all still drink beer (but we have more brews than George could ever imagine), we still have black powder muskets and play revolutionary soldier scenes for people wanting to see an enactment of George's time (but don't tell George those actors and actresses go t0 to the parking lots and drink their liquor and marijuana), we still have our mistresses as George had in his time (but please inform George some mistresses cost a lot of money). Above all George would be pleased to know his image is on the American $1 bill, but there may be no money in the future because future funds may be in the form of BITCOIN). I can have a lot of fun with this one. Poor old George would be certified insane in knowing what has transpired since his departing. It is inconceivable of anybody even attempting to know what George would feel about current America. George is inept at even trying to conceive the future of several 100 years. What was good for his time, was good and a start for our development. The biggest thing change in George's time and his brethren in arms, is the character of integrity, loyalty, trustworthy, ethics, morality and courage. Americans have a hard time with these character values.......why is that? Trump would make fun of George's wooden teeth and funny shoes...............time has been bad for American Government, Politics, Business and all of our social areas. Poor George, he's still rolling around in his grave not liking what he sees. Don't worry though George was a religious man and he's in a better place and enjoying himself.

The facts that George W never had wooden teeth or that he wasn't exactly God fearing is meaningless to you. The rediculas notion you hold that George's contemporaries were any less devious, crooked, shallow and hate filled (for those that didn't believe in their God) than today's so called "leaders" and "politicians" and did not extensive traffic in humans shows just how little you do understand about history and human nature!

I'm afraid G.W. would be rewriting the Constitution immediately, especially the Second Amendment ; he would not dare to cross the road or he gets killed again; no horse and buggy's. Let alone step on a plane on an airport where you get undressed by the TSA. Furthermore he would be shocked by the millions of tax free churches with all different names. Looking at our present Government budget and debt he would immediately get an huge heart attack. Especially when we tell him all the wars we lost as well what the Pentagon is wasting. Also he would be amazed that we not just have civil wars; but meddle now in the whole world and ruin it by our greed and our love for wars and uniforms. If he would meet our present candidates who are running for his job, then he would get ten heart attacks. So the best thing is for him to stay "underground" that is so much safer.

As for the teeth, granted they may have not been actually wood, but history depicts them as wood. Below is George's teeth.........egads

As for George's religion, Episcopalian was his choice. A common religion of George's times most brought over from England.

I surely enjoy discussing the tributes of George Washington and feel similar to Dutch's response on how shocked poor old George would be seeing how complicated, corruptible and mindless humanity has become. I believe George if he knew that this was coming in the future, George would have given up to the British. Let the British have the honor of this mess.

I'm sorry, but you don't know much about George Washington other than the whitewashed version of him you were taught in elementary school.

He would be shocked at the religious oligarchy our nation has become. I also wouldn't envision him advocating for a military coup and turning our country into a police state. You do understand that is why the colonists fought the Revolutionary War in the first place, right? How in the world have you convinced yourself that he would advocate doing away with everything he fought for because some white people are scared of brown people who practice a different religion than them?

With regards to the "don't tell George" garbage you were blabbering about--you better not tell George that slavery is no longer around and that women are able to vote. And you better not tell George that black people have the same rights as white people. What would George have done with his 318 slaves if they were given the same rights as him.

George would have to spend a lot of money paying salary and pensions for those slaves and if a person would denigrate him/herself to be called a slave for George Washington, poor old George would be beaten up in the courts for human abuse, forced labor conditions, and even more likely sexual abuse. I think George would end up in prison very quickly. Dutch is right, it's better George is not alive today.

I am enjoying this thread on George Washington and continuing to come with WWGD (What Would George Do) anecdotes. There is so much time lapse between centuries of human evolution, that George would be incapable of doing similar acts of valor for our American Heritage. It's best to let history have respect for George Washington and what he accomplished for our nation. Anyway, if George ever came around to understand current politics and law, he definitely would say, "I CAN tell a lie, because this is no cherry tree." George would realize the money greed principles and lie consistently with the best of them making him a rich son-of-gun.

    Are you insane?

Slaves received no salaries or pensions; they were slaves. They were paid nothing, beaten or killed for any reason, and were bought and sold like chattel.

Have you honestly convinced yourself that George Washington didn't have slaves? He had 318 at the time of his death. That's 318 human beings enslaved against their will by your favorite, god fearing President. That's 318 human beings the god you worship created who were put in chains and forced to work without ever receiving a penny from Dear George.

Maybe it's time for you to read something a little more complex than your elementary history books. American (and world) history is more complicated than what you learned when you were seven years old.

Jared, read the post, please read because you are responding like someone high on something. Yes, George owned slaves and as I was depicting that today if George did similarly I identified how much trouble he would be in and that he would have to learn how to pay salaries and pensions and keep his hands off the ladies. Please read! You show that you do not read well.

Maybe your getting lost in the translation between late 1700's and todays current calendar date. Is it that hard?
