100 years ago you had to win a war by blowing targets up. 100 years ago you had to drive to a library to do research. Today you have to win a war by blowing targets up. Today you hold in your hand access to the knowledge of the world your smart phone. Something is wrong here. Instead of a technical solution to stop an army they are seeking approval to kill more civilians in order to blow up more targets. The answer starts with Reagan. You don't have to blow up a supply truck to disable it. You can destroy the motor without hurting a person or polluting the atmosphere. There are lasers and signal generators that can render trucks inoperable. Why has so much money been spent to educate bombs ? Why are gunships reigning thousands of rounds a minute destroying a car, occupants, and everything in a 100 yard circle to kill one person ? For whatever reason Reagan represented SDI it was a humane advance in warfare. I don't know but I think there are lasers that could perform surgical operations to vaporize targets. Why not use lasers? Lasers don't require trillions of dollars to deploy and operate.

Chet; wake up! It is much more "profitable" for the industry to "complicate" our killing machine. It is the "money" honey!!!

Why built a 13 billion dollar warship? Why built a ridiculous plane costing 400 million plus a piece with 400 plus technical issues? Just to keep the trillions flowing in one direction. Don't you love it?

Chet, would it not be much better if we use ''lasers" for peaceful purposes? If these are cheaper to produce than the junk they built now, then the war industry will choose the item which gives them the most profit. Why spent all our energy and money on "killing tools?

Laser technologies is job creation with many applications both military and commercial. But for the real effect of the efforts to destroy an enemy is the things you do not see. Nano Technology, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are the real scary developments that have been going on for over a decade.

Consider a weapon delivered device that you cannot see and can be programmed to actually identify the mission target, searching and attacking its intended source. The world is there already. Pretty scary when you can't even realize you have been attacked, biologically, chemically or something else. The problem with this technology, it doesn't produce as much job as something like lasers, tanks, airplanes, ships, submarines, and things that go "boom".

So, be happy, with Lasers, they're cool for the moment.

AMC, what in the world you find "cool"? Inventing new "killing tools" to be used on people we don't like or don't agree with us?

Waterboarding and killing little kids and raping their mothers is so much more fun than killing people from a distance so you don't see the horrible effect from your luxury armchair, like we do with our drones and bombs. The attack in Mali is because we use our drones there; so we can expect revenge, Right? I've got US friends who got hit by "agent orange" and still love the US for that. Really? You need to see a "schrink"

Most of us in serving in Vietnam where exposed to agent orange by just being around the weapon barrels and spray systems, which is why veterans today get a response from their doctors they should make a claim. I see no need for myself, even having been supposedly exposed, but I also have many friends that today have neurological disorders, cancers, and have died living a miserable life after that war. Bringing this up has nothing to do with the subject on Lasers, which if you go into surgery anymore, a laser will most likely be used, not bad for a military weapon having fix your medical issue. On Mali, you couldn't be more wrong for accusing the use of Drones. The terror groups inside these African territories are interested in one thing TERROR by enslavement, rape, theft of property and a criminal desire to kill at all cost. Having blame Drones is nonsense and utterly ignorant of internal conflicts in Africa. These criminals even train children to become soldiers, which is probably to your liking because you feel they go after America's interest. Why do you even live in America, when you have nothing good to say about our country. Maybe you can go to Mali and solve their problems. May I suggest take boxes of Bibles with you.

Again the subject was " new weapons"; using "lasers" or "agent orange" are both weapons developed by us; both are used to kill or cause destruction. On the Mali thing you don't seem to understand that as soon as you mingle into a local conflict that you then have become an enemy. Since the US "meddles in just about any conflict in the world; we only create more enemy's who seek revenge. Is it any of the US's business what they do in Mali; did they attack us, stole our oil, raped our women?

No, we have to learn to improve our own country first, and have the UN deal with other countries; we are bypassing the UN because we are the arrogant know it all's, who think we can run the whole world while we barely can run this country properly. I've never seen persons like you in my life; who are so indoctrinated that they are totally blind for any reality in life and the world; you are just an hermit in "misery". Keep following "FOX" and the "church" and drool over the "army", that will make this a better country for sure. Why don't you move to Denmark?; may be you can learn something for a change.

Time to wake up AMC! You have gone off the deep end! like P.R. said!!!

Too high of taxation for me in Demark and additionally, Denmark and the Netherlands are doomed to being underwater in the near future as Oceans rise.....................climate change or Global Warming, whatever you desire it is a fact. No I enjoy being over 1000 feet above sea level. As for Denmark's government, I would never support a monarchy, as in Constitutional Monarchy. I'll visit as I do in Europe, but that's as close I want to come in enjoying a Danish Society. I am enjoying the reads on the youth movement in Denmark and it appears they are on the right track, but for any specific changes to their existing government will be decades away. I can't wait that long. America is way ahead of Denmark, socially, economically and politically.

As for the subject of this thread, I'll support industry in America for our Laser Technologies.

How how many die in Denmark for lack of healthcare insurance? Northern Europe is light-years ahead of the U.S. in creating social conditions that allow entrepreneurs to thrive, in allowing living wages.

sdi didn't work, doesn't work and likely won't work. As for a golden eye type weapon I will pass. Drones already make it easier to engage in violence. We do not need something else that makes it even easier. And who will get to decide who are threats and thus suitable for vaporization? Perhaps an algorithm? Hail Hydra!

btw, Lincoln and the Union army and probably the southern army as well brought the concept of total war into vogue. By striking at the economy everything became fair game as supporting the enemy's war efforts.

My op was clear. I questioned why bomb and cause collateral damage to civilians (killing and injuring them), damage infrastructure, cause pollution, cause more hate . If the tone of this thread is to choose the status quo for extensive war destruction then I would like an explanation. Lonely bird , picking somebody to vaporize has certainly got to be better than killing everybody in the area. If not, then explain the reasoning. I did not propose starting additional battles, I questioned why destroy everything and everybody in a target area in order to kill one or two individuals. The point has been lost if the consensus is that mass death and destruction is preferable to surgical neutralizing.

Thank Lonely ; indeed AMC has no clue on how the rest of the world live; she does not even know the role of monarchy; they no longer rule; their role is pure social, cutting ribbons; visiting other heads of countries; representing the country etc.

Indeed Northern Europe is light-years ahead of the U.S. in creating social conditions that allow entrepreneurs to thrive, in allowing living wages. As well has much better gun laws and no homeless people let alone veterans. Also much better education at a cheaper cost than here; no school busses either to clog up traffic. Neither they started wars all over the place and invaded countries at the cost of lots of lives and trillions of dollars; they spent it on infrastructure instead ; for instance in the Netherlands the Delta works as well in Scandinavia protection from storms etc. They advised New Orleans what to do, but of course arrogance won; so the next hurricane there will do just about the same damage. But yeah AMC is high and dry in the middle of nowhere living in the middle ages. Only makes "visits"(may be) to these countries with her eyes shut; since she refuses/won't absorb/study any other culture than the US military and of course her "church.

The sad part is that radical reform is not needed to improve conditions in the USA. Capitalism can work very well. The object of the .001 is not to create hate, discontent and misery. They simply do what they do best and that is to make deals that are self serving and beneficial to them , WIN. Simple regulations in the financial sector to regulate gambling would solve the problem. If the .001 could not make money by gambling they would find another way to win. They would do what everybody preaches is the USA way. They would start making things to sell. That would be called an industrial revolution. People would go back to work and the US wouldn't have to borrow money to pay the .001 for their gambling winnings. The .001 would still own everything and that is good. That is what they do best. They organize, manage and win. But the USA would be back in business using workers to make products to sell.

Really? And when someone is vaporized what would be the response from his family/tribe? No hatred growing? Who do you think that those left behind will look to for vengeance? Do you think that the development of such technology would remain secret? And who gets to choose the victim? Would we end up with AMC picking victims? Or radicals from the left or right picking who gets to be vaporized?

you want to stop total war then seek a just society.

Are you intimating that death and destruction from a gunship destroying a large area to kill one or two people is far more acceptable than neutralizing one or two people? You are trying to confuse my point as being an alternative with being a new initiative. Consider the hospital that was destroyed by mistake. I would have disabled only the utilities instead of destroying the entire building and many people.
