Daily Kos, November 11, 2015: Living with Denmark’s Democratic Socialism

The above perspective is by an American living in Denmark. He has married a Danish woman and has said he will probably spend the rest of his life there...happily. I won't make any extracts, but as one who spent a good chunk of my working career living, working and traveling in foreign countries, I can certainly agree with all of his observations. They are spot on.

Read and learn. Let's be like Denmark (very much a wishful remark that will never happen).

Yes Schmidt very similar to the Dutch system; the difference is however that in the Netherlands you've got more immigrants and the population is about 4 times that of Denmark. Because of the past colony's, a lot of Indonesians, Surinam people; later on plenty of Marocans, Turks , Polish, Ukrainians and now Libyans, Syrians, you name it. I'm afraid this will change the country and Denmark may follow, but does not have the huge influx as the Netherlands. Yes the writer is correct that due to the arrogance of Americans, they will never get a real form of democratic elected government as in Denmark. Here our leaders are "bought" by the 1%. Neither do they have a "second Amendment" what Trump wants to introduce over there.

Schmidt, your thread would be better titled "when will Demark become like America?". If you evaluate nations around the world, they are becoming more like America from economic and political philosophy, lifestyles, and oh heck, I'll say it, "guns". America is appealing to many around the world, not the unworthy news, but the goodness and success that America shows. There is no argument that America has its problems, but nations around the world have just as many and worse. Even the big nations like China, is showing trends toward being more like America. The old hardliners of these nations are disgusted with internal movements to be more like America, but its happening. Change is good and being more like America can be a challenge, but has its opportunity to pick and choose the best that America has to offer. While identifying Demark specifically, Denmark is and will be arming themselves with more guns especially after the Paris tragedy. Trend setting is what America does because our nation has a strong Ambassadorship in the world.

Like I said many times you are an indoctrinated stubborn individual. You don't get the picture. If Denmark arms itself with more "guns" if uberhaupt that is the case, which I doubt, then that is what WE export as an desease. I guess you have no clue at all that our culture is about the worst in the world related to greed, money, influence peddling, a corrupt government ( read how the Pentagon and CIA handed out billions (read the piece P.R. wrote) which so called got "lost" let alone all the military junk which got "lost" ; our "buying" of our politicians via billions of dollars, our student debt, our corrupt pharma industry, our pollution nation wide, our 2 party system, our gun laws, "begging" for the poor, because there is no money for them but only for our wars. I could go on and on. But your fake "patriotism" prevents you to realize it is not paradise here, of course except in a state called "misery"

While reading several worthy web sites that identify nations, such as Denmark, altering their government with new options for increasing jobs, eliminating high taxes, and improving life styles. Apparently, Denmark has a rising tide of new younger voters that do not like the old neo-liberalists that have plague the social classes with rewarding the rich at the cost of penalizing the poor and middle class. So, Demark, a constitutional monarchy, the world is watching how you change. As Demark stands alone as an island in Europe, their country is admitting maybe they should change the old guard and make for better a nation that is no longer Demark, but more like other nations, such as America. Say it is not so, yes I'll say it.........America is admired for its abilities to succeed even among so many irritating Republicans, racist bigots, and greedy people. Yes, America is a survivor and motivator among all nations in the world. Demark history has dark beginnings from a terrorist of the Baltic due to their Pirates to a todays liberal lifestyle that is showing discord among the youth of their nation admitting change is needed. Denmark is not unlike many nations around the world, "CHANGE is Coming". Even America will change, but the entire world will be watching and asking themselves, if America can do it, we can too.

I give up on you; you are a super indoctrinated robot; keep waving your flag and oil your guns. No you don't have any clue about the rest of the world; you just live in your own "little hole in the ground" in the backwards world of "misery" Yes the US exports a lot of unwanted propaganda and wrong capitalistic evangelical "greedy" culture. Be proud of that; we created ISIS, no one else, because of these things. Thanks

P.S. The only thing I can suggest for you, is to move to Denmark for five years, learn the language, have a job there and come back after 5 years and then tell me how it was. right now you talk "island" talk, which is pure ignorant.

Why would anybody go to a country (Denmark) with higher joblessness than America? I'm enjoying seeing the Demark youth movement mobilize the change to Demark, who are tired of seeing the neo-liberalists determining the course of their nation. Changes are forth coming. Maybe earlier than anticipated as all of Europe is on increased awareness of where their weaknesses are being exploited by some rebels driven to destroy all cultures not in ISIS beliefs.

Read what the American living in Denmark wrote; at least in Europe they learn from their mistakes; here they never do including you.
