MSN News: US Army lab develops a way to read soldiers' brains

I saw this article in MSN News this morning.

"Military intelligence analysts spend a lot of time scrutinizing countless images from various sources, such as drones and surveillance systems. An automated program developed by cognitive neuroscientist Dr. Anthony Ries, however, can make the process a lot faster. Ries works for a US Army research facility called the "The MIND (Mission Impact Through Neurotechnology Design) Lab," which has just began testing a program that can interpret brain waves. In simpler words: it can read human minds. During a recent test, he hooked up a soldier to an EEG connected to one of the lab's desktop computers and asked him to look at a series of images on screen flashing at a rate of one per second. Each image falls under one of five categories -- boats, pandas, strawberries, butterflies and chandeliers."

Okay, I understand that scientists are always looking at the brain and how it works or could be manipulated. What struck me about this article is that the US Army Lab is conducting the research. Isn't this best left to scientists with different motives than the military?

I read the article this morning and it was interesting, but not surprising. Medical research as well as DOD research has been conducting methods to read minds for decades. Much funding has went into this and although a lot of funding is through works of the military, DOD research captures the majority of research grants. Many Universities work for DOD research rather they know it or not. The researchers/scientists are happy to get the grants for funding their research and could care less where it comes from. The work captured for this article in MIND was probably initiated long ago from some high tech research at a University, than the military/DOD research teams take over with massive amounts of funds. Military/DOD research have many alternatives for what directions they take new developments. In the IND case of the article, it appears they are currently focusing on "leveraging eye-tracking and capturing the brains neural response for easier targeting options. I assume it is to enhance pilots heads-up displays or improving AI applications. Yes, DRONE's may be enhanced by these developments.

Some reporter caught the wind of this military discovery from someone relaxing the secrets of the development. This is where the public needs to be cautious, because when the news of some military research has been released, there is always some effect as to why they did so. As business is deploying new methods of cars driving themselves, this discovery into neural brain responses could help into making the car drive without a steering wheel. Look at all the public consumer advances. You are right about the military, but they and DOD and all government agencies, have the funds. Some of those funds bleed into domestic business, but the military has the money and scientists to make it all happen.

Second thoughts! What a wonderful discovery if indeed scientists, including military, have possibly developed a method to read the mind. Actually reading the mind with a person being unable to stop someone prying into their deepest and darkest thoughts. Where a person will be unable to lie or deceive while under the control of the mind reading method. Maybe it is a mission goal of MIND to develop a method to read the brain and it's capacity to hold information, so what?

I would like to see the inside thoughts of many in our society. How about all the criminal elements, suspected terrorist, or any suspect held by authorities to see if information on a crime is being with held. What a wonderful application to use on politicians, especially Ben Carson, Trump, Rubio, and of course our Democrats running for office. I would like to see who the real Ben Carson is because he is reported to be caught in several lies. Being able to red someone's mind could considerably change our social culture. Nobody could deceive anybody. This is a great discovery if it comes to past.

At the moment though, this MIND report is just about one facet in accessing the brain neural network responding to the eye recognition. Actual mind control or reading has been a fascination in science fiction for the past century, especially comic books and movies. Maybe it is coming to actuality and I welcome it. I want all liars to be exposed and lets see all those dark secrets you all withhold from the public.

Looking at AMC's response then I guess she was tested, but her brains did not work, so was disqualified, but once the "orders" as a robot were processed, then she was qualified because Jesus helped her. Yes like you said these folks want full control over the dumb army brains and later on apply it onto voters. But anyway "soldiers' and their "generals" are brainless anyway, so why test it uberhaubt? I guess indeed to get full control over people; it already works in the church so why not in the army? HOW SICK CAN YOU GET IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

I wonder what secrets Dutch holds about just who is "Dutch". Brain scan. please! I had another thought about this possible discovery, which was not disclosed in the article the thread is referencing, wouldn't this be great for non-evasive interrogation? Just think, no water boarding, no pulling finger-nails out, no rat cages, and no painful interrogation techniques. The Geneva Convention would surely approve of this technique to just scan the brain and capture all the information that the suspect holds. How pleasant and humane. I have no knowledge that this technique exists, because if it did, we would be finding out when they all stop using the "Lie-Detector" tests. After identifying some candidates for this MIND Brain Scan, I add Cheney, Rumsfeld, and most all of the Bush administration. Oh, what good stuff the public would learn. It may still be science fiction, but as research continues I believe one day we will be able to read everything about the mind. It's getting pretty personal now, so, start writing your new amendment to the Bill of Rights. Add, No mind control or retrieving information from other peoples minds". Maybe one day!

I'm shocked to find out they could find anyone with brains in the military! I never considered putting your life at risk to fight needless, endless wars to support the lifestyles of the rich required much more than a minimum IQ, strong body and lack of reality! Brains have nothing to do with it. People with brains don't join the military, for sure!

P.R. I guess AMC lives in a different world all together; what was it called again? But yeah, some people are already fully manipulated and indoctrinated by the army and church, so they are already robots; their brains are frozen in time and it comes to life only if there is an "order" and is programmed to "approve" everything these institutions preach or create with our tax money or so called "donations" by the "robots".
