Syria, ISIS, and the 2016 Presidential primaries dominating the headlines lately, but recent developments in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories has me very worried that a region already on fire is about to have some gasoline poured on it.

Our beloved "news" organizations haven't spent much time talking about the new developments in Israel and Palestine, but I guarantee you they will if things continue to spiral out of control there.

This recent wave of violence was sparked after Israel began dramatically limiting Palestinian access to the Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest site in Islam. The mosque just happens to be built on the Temple Mount, the site where the Jewish people want to build their third (and final...) Temple. This restriction by the Israeli authorities has led many disenfranchised Palestinians to believe they have nothing left to lose and must resort to violence.

The first two Intifada's were terrible for both sides and a third one will undoubtedly be worse. Israel has created an unsustainable situation by instituting an apartheid state in the occupied territories and their actions are beginning to make them the pariah of the world. You can't claim to be a democratic state while subjugating millions of people at the same time.

Instead of trying to work with the Palestinians to end their occupation and bring about a two state solution they have taken the other route of occupation and subjugation. That might have won them a temporary peace, but it is a terrible long-term strategy and I worry we are beginning to witness the beginning of another uprising, but this time the Israelis are more isolated then they have ever been before.

Jared -- Yes I agree. If the Israelis ever are to expect peace then they need to make peace with the Palestinians. But they cannot have 100 percent of their demands. What the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians is apartheid by every definition of apartheid. They refuse to agree to a two state solution but at the same time they are demanding a pure Jewish state...with Palestinians as second class citizens. It is not sustainable. It is not morally defensible.

America needs to call out their apartheid, and give them an ultimatum. The Israel Lobby, however, will never let that happen. They are absolutely ruthless when it comes to.targeting anyone who even hints that Israel is wrong. They hate President Obama.

In my opinion the Israeli's have no interest in any kind of a settlement with the Palestinians. Because if they agreed to a settlement in the nature of a two state solution.....they'd (outsiders) hook up some GPS and establish boundaries. Israel doesn't want that because it would be verifiable and Israel wants to continue stealing land as new settlements. 120 acres here, 650 acres there.....before you know it, it adds up. Because they have religious disagreements the battle is acceptable in some peoples eyes. I think it's sick and a form of piracy. The last few years I have changed my views on Israel. I don't like their actions or their self righteous views.

I'll forward my opinion to the presidential candidates (once it's settled as a final two) even though I realize it will make no difference. It's all I can do

Sorry, there is no solution; this is going on since 1947; since all around them there is war, except in Jordan and Lebanon something rubs off. The "wars" make all sides more fanatic including the bombing of Gaza did a lot of harm. So I doubt if there ever will be a solution except with starting a Syria like war.

There is a solution. Give the Israelis an ultimatum that they must honor the pre-1967 borders, abandon all settlements within the Palestinian owned borders, and comply with all United Nations resolutions. Otherwise, the USA and other western nations will cut off all aid to Israel and we will also quit blocking Security Council resolutions condemning Israel for their murderous acts against not only the Palestinians but also United Nation personnel.

That of course is a pipe dream. The Israel Lobby in the USA is too powerful...perhaps the most powerful lobby in America extending into not only Congress, but also academia, the media, Hollywood, banking, the Democratic and Republican Parties and augmented with rich "enforcers" like Sheldon Adelson. No president can be elected if he/she goes against the Israel Lobby.

Thus Schmidt, you said it yourself; there is no solution!! Sorry to say the whole Muslim world sees Israel as an eye sore; so if you can convince them that does not matter, be my guest. We are again the major cause of all of this; we created that State in the middle of the Muslim world; yes, as I said many times the US foreign policies never used their brains. The Jews should have been sent back to all the countries where they came from; that would have solved 50 years or more of disputes etc. And don't forget all the money we've spent on Israel since 1948. Thus that would have been the solution. Wow how simple!!!
