I thought this country has an Constitution which says : "Separation between church and State" So what is this Santa Claus "robed" old man doing in our Government establishment?

Why don't we invite an ISIS preacher to do the same?

Lately the "religious" trend is more and more meddling in the Government; where is our Supreme Court who should know what the Constitution says?

Sorry this Pope is just an snake oil salesman, who certainly can not add anything to our way of governing, since he can't prove anything he says.

What is wrong with this country to invite a "murderous church" filled with lies and deceit for centuries?

Religious and political leaders of all faiths and political backgrounds have spoken in front of joint sessions of Congress since King Kalakaua of Hawaii first spoke before a joint session in 1874. This is nothing new.

I'm glad Pope Francis is speaking before Congress because he will likely make Republicans extremely uncomfortable with what he is going to say. Francis is an advocate for the poor and is pillorying rich countries, especially the US, for ignoring global climate change. What's so wrong with him going to our seat of government and chiding Republicans for their backwards world views?

Jared, you must be kidding. "advocate for the poor"? Sorry the catholic church has stolen more than any institution; where did all their gold plastered cathedrals come from; forgot the slave labor and Inca murders etc?. Advocating climate change is nice but can't be cured by the Vatican so a nice gesture, that's all. Acting like a bunch of hypocrites who stick their heads in the sand about what this church has done in the world, including the "order" to get plenty of kids and no abortions or birthcontrol for a thousand years just for the "money" and power over the people. No this guy is may be better than others before him, but he should know better that this church never cared for the poor. Ask the Templars, all the burned witches and power plays/wars since this church started. In Dutch they say: Even if you dress up a "monkey" in silk robes and gold plastered hats, it is still a "monkey". Jesus would die (again) laughing about the catholic circus.

It's not like Pope Francis is directly responsible for past atrocities of the Catholic church. He wasn't alive during the Crusades. That's like blaming me for slavery and Jim Crow in America because I happen to be white; or blaming all Protestants for the atrocities their ancestors committed against the Catholics in the 1600's.

Look--there are over one billion Catholics in this world. Just because you or I are atheists doesn't mean that we are going to convince one billion people that we are right. Hell, I don't try to convince anyone that I'm right with my beliefs. I don't believe it's my business to do so. I fight to make sure we don't pass religious laws that discriminate against anyone else in this country. Live and let live. If someone wants to worship a creature in the sky then I say go for it. I just want my government out of it.

So instead of berating any religious person for their belief we should try to work with moderate forces within those belief systems (and Pope Francis is definitely one of those moderate forces) to ensure civil and human rights for all people of this world. If the Pope wants to talk to our Congress and try to shame them into helping the poor and less fortunate then he should be free to do so. He has a following of one billion people. We may not agree with their religious beliefs, but I sure as hell hope we can find some common ground on things that matter to all of us.

AMEN Jared, there is nothing wrong with having this Pope address Congress, as it has been done before. If he argues for something that a group of citizens agree is against our country's best interests, then those people have a right to voice their objections. However, if he argues against the abuse of civil rights, he is doing what the majority feels is right.

I usually like to stick with Church and State rule. In this case though, I'm totally fine with it. Actually, I'm pretty excited for it. Francis is really a one of a kind Pope, and is astronomical more outspoken and open minded than anyone before him.

Jared, I agree. What irritates me is the hypocritical way they act, I don't care if it is the Pope or Trump, I can't stand hypocrites. As I said you can dress it all up etc. but "fake" remains "fake"

Chet I have no clue what you mean, as far as I'm concerned all of them sell "snake oil"; surely they don't help the economy because they don't pay taxes either nor built housing for the poor. Bibles, Korans, and preaching does not make this a better world. If you want fantasy just go to the movies.
