The VA has a shortage of mental health professionals. The major reason is that the VA restricts hiring of psychologists to only those who graduate from prgrams approved by the APA. See "ELIGIBILITY FOR VA EMPLOYMENT

Considering the Hoffman Report which was leaked last week and is reported in the current Newsweek "How the Largest Association of U.S. Psychologists Colluded in Torture

shouldn't concerned citzens, and especially veterans, demand that the VA completely eliminate their abeisance to the "professional" association that colluded in torture, and open up hiring to the thousands of qualified psychologists who could rapidly fill the hundreds of vacancies in the VA mental health system?

No agency of govenrment, particularly one charged with treating mental health, should be slave to a single private organziation, particularly one that has displayed its complete lack of ethics.

The VA is rife with failed policies and programs. No bureaucrat is ever punished. No policy or program is ever closed for lack of medical efficacy. The bureacrats just keep on going, honoring their obligations to private organizations and to their own careers before they honor their obligations to veterans and the American people.

Wow, the VA needs psychologists? I guess the people who enlists in the armed forces should need those first; why put the horse behind the cart?. You must be already nuts to join; invade and kill other people who never did the US any harm, looks to me a job for a "schrink" DAY ONE..

Gosh Dutch, what do you mean "kill other people who NEVER did the U.S any harm"? I suppose you mean no Japanese, or no German, or Mid-East native ever did the U.S. any harm. I guess the history books where you went to school were written by total liars then. Just who do you think dropped the bomb on Pearl Harbor? Who bombed the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen? I could go on, but I think you get the point.

I never enlisted, but I think there IS some physical and mental testing that recruits are required to pass. And don't you suppose that most of these mental and physical injuries are the result of what occurred during these brave soldiers enlistments? Thus the V.A. was supposedly set up to help address these injuries, as one part of all the services they offer. I guess they just underestimated the volume of injuries they would experience. To me, that is certainly understandable. But I think they have hired a new director, and hopefully things will begin to change.

Michael, don't play stupid. You know what I mean; all our lost wars since WWII. Kids who join should not be indoctrinated as the add's say that this is a 'hero" job with a fantastic future which helps to keep this country save. The recruiting policies are dirty lies and kids should be informed about the truth what war is all about. Why do you think plenty of them come back as vegetables without legs etc. In the meantime the people who sent them sit comfortable in their oversized armchairs with a big cigar in their mouth. Our VA is now overloaded due to our stupid lost wars; the only one's who benefitted are the rich war industry promoters like McCain and his lobbyists. So to advertise "hero futures" to lure these dumb kids is criminal in my opinion..
