The US govt. has heightened the security talk heading into a holiday weekend. Better safe than sorry ? Some might say that but it seems like there have been 100 such occasions (watch out for 9/11/2015) where the alerts were raised. It's like crying wolf or the sky is falling. Yes there is crazy stuff happening around the world, especially in the middle east. Those who work in this capacity in the US seem to have done a good job keeping an eye on the issue.

Keep issuing warnings and eventually you can say I told you so. However, if nothing happens after 100 times when warnings were made, you begin to lose credibility.

Today there were reports of gun shots at a navy facility in DC. After a quick inspection, no gunman was found.

(Locally) Today in Columbus, Ohio a plane on the way from St. Louis to DC was ordered to land in Columbus because of a passenger who was making threatening remarks. Other passengers must have been upset because they we 85% of the way to their destination. Plane was emptied and passengers were questioned. Dogs sniffed luggage and no bad things were found.

With this holiday involving loud sounds, big crowds, night time celebrations and travel...... I imagine those involved in looking for problems will have their hands full.

Hopefully everyone will have a safe holiday.

I agree, TJ. The government can only "raise the threat level" so many times before people just stop paying attention. I, for one, fall into the camp. It seems as if the threat level is raised every single holiday and nothing ever happens. That may be because they were able to thwart an attack before it happened, but I have a feeling that it has nothing to do with that.

We will never, ever be able to stop a lone wolf terrorist from making a small bomb and planting it in a densely populated area. That just isn't going to happen. If a lone wolf was intent on doing something then there is no amount of police or counter terrorism officials that would be able to stop them.

The question then becomes whether we should continue to spend billions upon billions of dollars a year trying to prevent the unpreventable or whether those billions of dollars should be spent on education, heath care, and other social welfare issues that may prevent an individual from becoming radicalized in the first place.

Jared; sure I agree. Fear mongering has become a US hobby; so they can ask additional budgets and of course lots of money. Lets be honest, if anything happens, did we not ask for it in the first place due to our behavior in the world?

Surprise surprise...no terrorist attack happened last night.

It's the same script every major holiday. Politicians and police "experts" blanket the airwaves screaming that a major attack is imminent and then disappear until the next holiday comes around. It happens like clockwork each and every year. I really thought our media would have caught on to this nonsense by now, but they fall for it every single time.

Yes, No catastrophes. Desensitized citizens will become more vulnerable. The only tragedy that I heard about was a 7 year old in Chicago who was shot and killed (accidentally) when authorities were trying to shoot his father. Chicago is a damned mess.

    I do worry about 9/11/15.

Tony; don't worry; even 9/11 did not kill you; the fear factor is only "sold" in this country. There are about 350 million people here; 9/11 killed only 2300, which is peanuts. Guess how many civilians we killed worldwide in the meantime; no terrorist can match that. So put your fear aside, it is only used to boost our military, NSA, CIA budgets. Also our slogans; "this keeps America safe" as well "God bless America", should give you a huge mental boost ; pls sent donations to my cause, which is keep them scared.,.

You wrote "9/11 killed only 2300, which is peanuts". Maybe peanuts to you, but certainly NOT to any relatives of those 2300. What if one or more of them had been YOUR relatives?

my worries for 9/11/15 is because even though civil authorities have all but stopped any terror acts in this country... it's not unreasonable to think any person ('s) wanting to do anything of that nature would have just one chance and they would probably expect to get maximum coverage from all news and many mentions on social media.

Our response to those 2,300 deaths has been a perpetual state of war for fourteen years, 5,269 dead and 50,897 wounded soldiers, and 1,739,547 dead or seriously wounded Afghan and Iraqi civilians.

What if one or more of those people were YOUR relatives? Would you say they gave their lives, limbs, or minds for a legitimate cause?

Maybe, but I for one am tired of living in a perpetual state of fear and spending our national treasure in the name of fighting an ideology. It really seems like we as a country haven't learned one thing since 9/11.

If someone is intent on blowing themselves up in a crowded market then they will eventually do it. No amount of money, manpower, or media coverage will stop that from happening. In the same breath--no one will be able to fly a plane into a building ever again because every passenger plane door has been retrofitted to prevent that from happening. So unless they get their hands on a small nuclear device, we will never again witness an attack that reaches the magnitude of 9/11.

Jared, absolute , thanks; exactly what I meant. May be I'm a bit cruel, but this country is asking for it on the way we stomp around the world as bullies..

I'm just happy nothing happened.....Had any attacks occurred they would have blamed it on "JOSE SANCHEZ ;undocumented immigrant.....and then I would probably get that free trip to Cuba I've always dreamed of....compliments of the government.

    Thanks again Donald. MORON.
