You read that correctly. Stephen Colbert just donated enough money to fully fund every single project request that South Carolina teachers had listed on a teacher crowdfunding website. The website, DonorsChoose
, is devoted to providing funding for projects in some of the most economically neglected schools throughout the country.
Colbert attended public school in South Carolina and much of his extended family still reside there.
This is the kind of philanthropy that I love. It's one thing to throw money at things when you're rich, but it's another thing entirely to fund one thousand separate and personalized requests. It's even more neat that this money is coming from the proceeds of the auctioning of his 'Colbert Report' set.
