John Oliver traveled to Russia to interview Edward Snowden and it was about as awesome as you could imagine. Oliver, in a way only he could, was able to get Snowden to explain the complexities of the surveillance state by using a 'dick pic' as an example.

Snowden explained how a handful of NSA programs could get their hands on a picture of your private parts and what they could do with it. Oliver used this example because he was baffled at American's outright apathy regarding the surveillance state, but how they all express outrage if a picture of their junk is exposed. So he used that example to try to show America how fragile their privacy actually is.

You can watch the full interview here. It starts at minute 16 in the video, but I set it up so you can begin watching the interview right away. If you want to watch the full 30 plus minute piece then you can just rewind the video. This comes from John Oliver's official YouTube channel.

Just watched. It really was a great interview. I was shocked when he announced the interview halfway through the episode. Made me like Oliver even more. And Snowden for that matter. Also just recently watched CitizenFour. I highly recommend that to anyone that doesn't know a lot about what Snowden actually did.

John Oliver is definitely one of a kind. My $15 a month subscription is worth it just for his show.

It's awesome how Oliver can take a very complicated issue that Americans don't understand much about and phrase it in a way that they will definitely understand. Case in point--dick pictures. I was laughing so hard when he showed Snowden a picture of his junk and then asked Snowden to explain how a variety of spy programs would get their hands on said picture. Hell, if that's what gets Americans up in arms about our government spying on us then I'll take it!

Great movie. It was such a great idea to document in video the meetings they had in his hotel room. It's one thing to read about it in the paper, but it's another thing entirely to see exactly what discussions they were having and the plan they developed to get this information out to the world.

It's sad how few Americans don't care that the government is documenting each and everything they do on their phones and online, but maybe they will change their minds once they realize that the government is seeing all those dick pics they are sending that they think are private.
