The 1st Amendment clearly states the guarantees the Separation of church and state, and that citizens shall not be forced to believe in any particular religion. And yet the very conservative GOP politicians strongly push their religious beliefs regarding same sex marriage and abortion into our political system. How can we inform Americas of this loss of freedom?

    Welcome to the DemocraticHub 4Walt.

I couldn't agree with you more. This has been something that I've been very concerned about for a long time. Using the functions of a secular Government to force the population to follow Christian laws would have our Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves.

That's a good question. The conservative movement has done a masterful (and sinister) job of convincing many Americans that we are a Christian nation and that our Founders meant to set up this Christian utopia here in America. It couldn't be further from the truth, but many Americans truly believe that the 1st Amendment doesn't necessarily apply to them because the Founders couldn't have possibly meant to prevent us from making pro-Christian laws.

It will take time, but I think we will eventually see a day where religion no longer plays as dominant a role in politics as it does now. America is becoming less religious as time goes on and that will eventually pay dividends in forcing the separation between Church and State as wide as we possibly make it. Don't give up because it'll be a long fight!

Macedonia - has an unemployment rate of 37% and a poverty rate of 22%

    Dutch:

The Netherlands falls in the 39-44% range on the atheist /agnostic scale, which isn't much different than Russia. ..
Holland, of course, has "Dutch courage" , and Russia has - vodka.

Correlation is not causation. Religion is an important, personal part to many of us that brings our community together. Gives us an avenue to meet and befriend people. And gives us guidelines to strive to be a better person.

And, teaches people to hate everyone and anyone whom does not accept their beliefs. All religions are man-made, by men, to control the uneducated, supersicious, naive, weakest members of society and therefor give power and wealth to the few at the top. Religion is just another form of government and as such is all about gaining control, wealth and power of other less weaker people.

Most deeply religious people tend to be highly conservative in their thinking, as conservative thinking is all about "me", "fear of others, fear of change" "needing support". Liberals on the other hand are almost always far more open minded, less fearful of living, deep thinking, questioning and searching for the real truth and being able to accept it even if it differs from their beliefs, loving and caring towards others and better adjusted as a whole.

There are many scholarly books written about religion and the harm and danger it does and has done to the human race, I suggest you open your mind a tiny bit and see how you've been conned and manipulated your whole like by religion and why truly enlighten and educated people are not religious.

A very timely article this morning by Frank Schaeffer on Christianity in America:

    www.salon.com/2015/02/27/i_was_a_right_wing_sidekick_what_i_discovered_working_.../

And, then there is this article explains how Athiests are smarter than true believers:

Gerald W. Wake up you may as well join a gun club; it is exactly as PGR says; these things are "human" created since the beginning of times, because of fear of the unknown. We are just a "bacteria" in this huge universe and people can't dictate whatever created 'it" on how people should behave in the universe; we are the arrogant "nothings" who think we know it all because some "other" humans wrote "book's" in which no one from outerspace had a say in it or wrote anything at all ; even Jesus never wrote one word..
    Pure ridiculous.
