I was just watching Al Jazeera America and they said that Russia and China very much want to corner the market of Oil and Natural Gas exploration in the Arctic. There is large amounts of money to be made so both sides are fighting to get their share. The USA and Norway also want to get into this market. Prez. Obama is not very much in favor of this idea but we'll have to see where it progresses. If "Global Warming" continues to escalate the massive melting that should make it easier to access drilling sites. I don't like the idea because I envision one of the last ecologically clean places on earth getting trashed in an environment where the only important issue will be profits.
90 Billion barrels of oil and 44 Billion barrels of natural gas liquids.
(While looking up Arctic drilling I saw other web sites that were very interesting. One by Shell Oil suggests far more oil and gas is there. Another site said it would be terrible for the animals in the area)

Oh, My God --- isn't there ANY place left on earth, that isn't going to be destroyed with toxic OIL -- and having oil spills destroying all animal & plant life left upon it? Are whales & seals & polar bears & walrus & sealions --- just "expendable" creatures, to DIE just so we pay 50 cents cheaper for gas?

I remember once reading a science fiction story about the Future, when water was getting scarcer and scarcer, while the small supply left was often too polluted for human consumption. Mankind was getting near to Extinction --- but then somebody had a bright idea. They could use huge barges to haul some of the giant Arctic icebergs down to the US shoreline, and somehow control the melting, to fill up huge reservoirs built for human drinking water.

But NOW, when this dangerous scenario is becoming REAL, (extreme water shortage) -- We have the uncontrollable Greedy OIL companies racing to destroy the LAST water supplies on Earth, so they can drill for OIL, which will of course spill OIL all over those pristine icebergs, which could be used to save the human species. And now, it is even a competitive RACE to see which nation will begin drilling FIRST! And then TRY to tell Red China that the icebergs are more worth to us as "water", than a whole land full of rotten oil. And of course their drilling rigs will not only destroy all the animals habitat, but the oil will spill into the nearby ocean, killing all the sea creatures & fish that live there. GEE, can nobody grasp that it is better to use CLEAN sources of Energy? Like SOLAR and WIND POWER, that do NOT pollute anything? ----- We must either LEARN this lesson, soon, or all mankind will DIE.

Obama came with a plan to allow drilling in east coast waters ( Virginia, North & South Caroline. Georgia coast) I guess he's forgetting the "gulf stream"; if there is a "spill" you will even get it in Maine!! The "rigs" have to be at least 40miles out of the coastline. ( just like that will help?) But anyway the "gulf" here is already ruined by Mr.Scott ( governor FL) so lets ruin some more tourist area's.

Thanks for that information about the Gulf Stream. Maybe it is because "nobody" has the time to THINK anymore about the Environment, or the safety of our drinking water. For some reason, they get fixated on "floppy inflated balls" or a major sports event, to distract them all from REALITY.

The OIL INDUSTRY has already made so many $billions and trilliion$ from U.S. citizens (at the gas pump) that they could get by for 6 generations, not making any more money off of us. Not to mention the BONUS of "stealing" tons of OIL from IRAQ -- which nearly bankrupted our US Treasury to pay for that war --- but of course, the greedy GOP never "gave" one dime of that OIL money they stole, back to the U.S. Treasury. NOPE, the GOP just take us all for suckers, to loot & rob us coming and going. Then "kill" our sons to fight that stupid IRAQ war, (it was officially a War Crime) (for 12 years) & then to find that our GOP President (Geo "W" Bush, Jr) had been "business partners" with the declared ENEMY, Osama bin Laden. Now, WHY IS THAT NOT BEING "Headline News"? FLASH FLASH -- Osama bin Laden, was trained by our U.S. CIA to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. And that was part of the Al Quaeda. (Note: this means WE trained the Al Quaeda, & the CIA hired Osama bin Laden to be their leader). Confused, yet?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Georgie "W" Bush (Jr) owned a couple of OIL companies (in Texas) called Harken Energy, & Arbusto Oil Co. (Cleverly, the word Arbusto is Spanish for "BUSH"). And thru many contacts of his father, Bush found a great "investor" for his oil companies, and the guy's name? Gee, this might sound "familiar" to you. (Bin Laden). BINGO --- yep, that same family we all love to hate. NOW HOW CAN this possibly BE? That the very guy accused of being a "terrorist" hiding in a cave for years, was actually an "investor" in Georgie's own oil wells in Texas? (Strange, but TRUE).

THE PLOT DEEPENS. Do you remember a bunch of foreign guys hijacked 3 planes & flew them into the World Trade Center (twin towers)? (in 2001)?

RIGHT AFTER 9/11 --- nobody in America could fly -- air traffic was severely restricted. BUT all the members of the Bin Laden family were allowed to fly OUT of America, without being interrogated, or detained at all --- (The so-called "terrorists" were allowed to fly - & we U.S. citizens were NOT?)

The Bin Laden family is extremely wealthy, and they have corporate hdqtrs in Switzerland & (I believe the other is in France). Also, the famous Osama bin Laden is said to have 54 brothers & sisters. They all have world-wide investments, (besides in Georgie Bush's -- Harken Energy & Arbusto OIL).
It is extremely noteworthy, that George "W" Bush did NOT try very hard to "track down" & kill "terrorist" Osama bin Laden. In fact, he showed nothing but disdain when President Obama performed the Feat of a Lifetime, capturing & killing Osama a couple of years ago. Could that be because Osama was actually a good Bush buddy? (Good investors are hard to find).

Just heard that the US Congress voted to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline --- carrying tar sands oil all the way down here from Alberta, Canada. Known to be the most polluted toxic form of oil there is, it goes right thru the pristine Ogallala aquifer which serves 5 states with drinking water. This is one of the craziest things that anybody could do, but since when do Republicans do anything that is sane?

On Rachel Maddow's show last night, she told of some Republicans going over to Israel with a bunch of crazies that think they can bring dead people back to life. (No kidding). This is what passes for sanity in the Republican Party, so no wonder they can get elected. This same group, (American Family Association), thinks the Jewish religion is not "legitimate", and only the Christian religion should be allowed in America. (Of course, generally Repubs are not "too bright" --
so they do not realize that Jesus was born a JEW, and his mother Mary was born a Jew, & so was Joseph (his step-father). And indeed most ALL the people around them, including the Apostles, were Jews. (Jesus himself was educated in a synagogue, & taught by Jewish rabbi's). But Repubs apparently never READ their Bible where all this is explained. Since I guess they are too busy raising dead corpses, to worry about Biblical history.

Pretty soon, they will be wanting to expand their Voting rights, to allow dead corpses to send in "absentee" ballots. (As if it would make much difference, since quite a few Repubs are already known to be brain dead.) And some of those are among their best candidates: )

Apparently Royal Dutch Shell began drilling in the Arctic 8 years ago. They have spent huge money (6 billion dollars), had accidents, aren't pumping oil. Apparently it's really tough to drill up there.

I know all about it; I worked for them in the 60's up north ( seismic work) I can write a book about it ( thicker than the "bible")

Hey, Dutch: What an amazing life you have had. How does a guy survive in the Arctic? Build an igloo? Solar cubicles? It would be neat to know more about your adventures. Do you think Arctic drilling will ever be possible, with good (not dangerous) results?

Yes; the artic nature and muskeg can be a lot of "no" fun. Two of my co-workers were mauled and killed by grisly's (geologists) Also an "indian" helper crawled one night under a D-9 Cat and was chrushed because of the soft muskeg; luckily I was not a "field " kid at the time but helped with the recording in the seismic record truck; we mapped mostly the upper Canadian North West area. Bears were always an issue and we had heavy caliber company guns. I did not do that for long; left again for the Netherlands and got into aviation. The rigs are not that dangerous; the " chain gang" job was the most dangerous; also everything "broke" all the time because of the cold; truck axle's; circuit boards failed/ snapped etc. etc. You get used to it.

Hi Dutch: Good Grief ----you should write a book. Sounds very adventurous, but also very dangerous. I would hate for you to just be an icicle statistic, instead of being here on this forum, able to keep things lively. I get a kick out of your humor, and we have a lot more in common than you know. Hope you got well-compensated for your Arctic days. -- Then, what happened in your days of Netherland's Aviation? (I have a slow memory, so bear with me, (OOPs) -- maybe I should not use that word "bear" (ha ha) // I would not recommend ever getting "bare" in the Arctic either. Are there no Eskimo's?

Eternal, you are way too nice to me; I do not deserve that; also I'm a bad writer and do not have the patience to sit all day behind some idiot machine.

But don't get me wrong, I always liked your spirit and political views; we clash only about what's up there; which is good too. So keep it up; I'm the last person in the world (not yet) who will save this world from the boogie man or the tax collector.

Apparently Exxon Mobil started drilling in the Russian Arctic in August. Despite the sanctions......... Money over rules politics or diplomacy. I think this is reason enough for me to boycott these fools.

Tony; how do you know where your "gas" for your car originated? You forgot that eventually these companies make sure the "price" will go up again; we all are suckers, because we love our cars and there is no money left for high speed rail ,roads, public transportation; that money goes to Iraq and our fabulous F35

Well currently I'm aware of Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil drilling in the arctic. That's 2 chains for me to avoid. That leaves me about 16 gas stations who are not drilling in virgin land. Easy choice.

Thanks for the info. but I wonder if there is a more significant thing we could do. Because if I boycott those mentioned OIL companies, it would only cut their net income by about $30 per month. (ha) But if we could start a group that would make a pledge to never buy those brands of gasoline again, we could start to make a difference. Is that even a possibility?
