All other news seems to be set aside today as another "storm of the century" approaches New England.

ClimateProgress, January 26, 2015: The Climate Science Behind New England's Historic Blizzard

Quoting Dr. Kevin Trenberth, former head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research:

"The number 1 cause of this is that it is winter. In winter it is cold over the continent. But it is warm over the oceans and the contrast between the cold continent and the warm Gulf Stream and surrounding waters is increasing. At present sea surface temperatures are more the 2F above normal over huge expanses (1000 miles) off the east coast and water vapor in the atmosphere is about 10% higher as a result. About half of this can be attributed to climate change."

Tell that to Senator James Inhofe. What's next...some televangelist preacher saying it is God's punishment for decadent liberal values in the part of the country, similar to what they said after Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy?

I'm not sure what is worse - watching all the blizzard hysteria on every TV station, the idiot Patriots fans or right wing, Christian loonies in congress bloviating to all their followers!

Unfortunately, living in New England I get bombarded by them all!

Well let's hope you have power tomorrow so you can tell us what it's like to be snowed in. Good luck.

Obama can't seem to catch a break. He's out in India doing some promotion of climate change and other initiatives and is being given the "royal treatment" and the news media here won't give him 10 second clip. He and Michelle were going to take a side trip to the Taj Mahal, a once in a life time experience, but he had to cancel that trip to go to Saudi Arabia and meet with the new royal leaders there. And because of the storm, the media won't give him 10 seconds of coverage of that trip either.

Well maybe at this stage of his presidency he doesn't give a shit. Ha.

We are an island as Dutch said, and Obama is over there somewhere at places largely unknown to the average American. Out of sight, out of mind. The corporate media calls the shots.

I thought we put all those troublesome Indians on their own reservations a long time ago?

I think I read in one of those Texas history books that we can thank General Custer for accomplishing that mission, as a matter of fact. Was I mislead?

I don't know.....it must be the ratings. The NYC Mayor made it sound like death was coming on a pale horse. How stupid does he and CNN feel now?
NYC looked normal to me........"RUN,,,,the British are coming"

Indeed , this is quite common right now; the "fear" factor reigns; a toy "drone" landed on the White House lawn; total panic. Whole fleets or airplanes grounded; while N.Y. had just about nothing at all but a bit of sleet; the weatherman offered his exuses and likely after that ran to church to blame the "whatever" to screw-up his job. When is the next Ebola patient coming? Panic in the joint for sure.

I wouldn't be too hard on the mayor or the weather forecasters. They deal in probabilities, and at some level of probability (something less than 50 percent) the mayor has to make a decision on what actions to take. In this case the actual center of the storm was some 75 miles further to the northeast than they predicted in their most likely scenario. Parts of Massachusetts are getting some 30 inches of snow. Those 30 inches could have dumped on NYC if the storm center was as predicted. And 30 inches on NYC would have been catastrophic.

Weather is all over the national news. It's times like this that I think a bit more about the homeless. I hope everyone is safe.

What a perfect idea, for this time of year. We all have extra possessions that we don't really need, but often those can be very precious to the homeless, the poor, the orphans, & the veterans who share this earth with us. *GIVE to others, like Jesus said* And don't forget the homeless animals, if you can spare the time. We have so many of those poor sad creatures in America. *The spirit of Giving is the spirit of Happiness* And God will bless you for it.

Sorry Eternal; Jesus said nothing; the writers did. Also I did not notice anyone from outerspace "blessing me" to give "Goodwill" clothes or food.
Does it snow in la la land?

just got back from boston after making two attempts to get there. i cover the northeast for my company. the forecast for this weekend is another 12 + inches. no, there is nothing weird about the weather and man had nothing to do with dumping massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. move along, nothing to see. boston applied for a variance to dump snow into boston harbor. there were cars in the parking lot of the hotel where i sated that looked like they hadn't moved in days. what a mess.
