In the big inning it was a seven inning game called on account of rain on Sunday. And the Lord rested after creating the universe (heavens and the earth) and, in his own image, a special creation which was called man and depending on which of the two accounts you like, a woman for the man to have as a help-mate. HAH! We see how that worked out.
But notwithstanding that He created light before there was anything to emit light, and He created other things in impossible sequence according to the sacred text . . . He saw that everything He had created was “very good”. And so, He rested on the seventh, which from thence on others were supposed to keep holy but what with the passage of time, 7th became a kind of “wild card” figure. (seventh of what?)
Well anyway, after a short time the special creation was seen by the Lord to be so evil that He caused a great flood that wiped out everything that lived on earth except 2 (or 7, depending on which account you like) of each of every living thing which included Noah and his wife.
And the whole Creation was re-created through propagation of prey and predators who, even within the confines of a boat, hadn’t eaten or been eaten by each other – or infected by the 2 of each kind of micro-species/pathogens that were conveniently not mentioned.
And thereafter, after eons of slaughter and rape and the Lord’s killing Egyptian women and first born children and games played with Pharaoh re. letting the Israelis go . . . they finally left their “chosen people” captivity and headed out toward the promised land, all the while off and on enraging the Lord to the point of plagues and pestilences and biting snakes – but then repentances at over-reaction. And the while this while, and ongoing, the slaughter and rape and massacre of everyone along the way by the chosen people except when they, occasionally, were the defeated in the confrontations with the others (humans) that had been created in God’s image and thus should be special too.
On through empires and conflicts and conquests and genocides the “very good” Creation continued, so evil, so depraved, that Jesus, “God’s actual son” was crucified so that there would be peace on earth, good will toward men, and the lion would lie down with the lamb and except for mutual persecutions and atrocities committed by one early sect against another (seen as heretical), a new Kingdom on Earth had been established.
And it had its apogees of sacred state in such events as the slaughter (and economic extortion) of the Knights Templars, and then the Inquisition, and eras of Catholics slaughtering Protestants (and vice versa). And there were the Crusades and it’s a wonder to me that some evangelical group hasn’t asserted that Jesus himself led the hordes vs. the Muslims.
Ah, but the religious massacres calmed and the Civil and World Wars I and II were significantly secular, so to speak.
But now, the predicted conclusion of a Perfect God’s creation? The outcome of the Special Creation, man? Armageddon coming soon and only 144,000 of the millions of earth’s mankind will not suffer eternal torment for their sin.
