2,000 innocent civilians are “littered on the streets and surrounding bushes” in Nigeria after Boko Haram went on a rampage in 10-20 communities in the war stricken state. Think about that for a second. 2,000 innocent people just had their lives ended and there was a hardly a bleep on the media radar.

What is it about the lost continent that makes the Western world just shrug their shoulders and move on to other business? We have had over 24 hours of non-stop coverage of the terrorist attack in Paris, but 2,000 dead Nigerians doesn't even warrant a mention? Why is this?

The way our media treats Africa reminds me of a famous Joseph Stalin quote: "One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic." Is that how we now treat Africa? Are they just a statistic to the rest of the world?

Jared, I wrote something in the past as well about Nigeria; it was bad 20/30 years ago but gotten only worse. The tribe fights keep going; nothing new except as you said the "numbers" increase; humans have no value there; the rich in Lagos take care of themselves the rest is dirt.

I can think of two reasons not manny people care - one is the fact they are most likely not Christians, the other is even more obvious.

PGR, As I said neither one is important there; only the money from the oil counts.

I have not seen this story on the news so I need to get much more information. This group seems like a bad set of people. I'm not sure what the solution is.

Due to the fact this group operates in an desolate area in the north/east part of Nigeria and no one really cares ( no money to be made on such; only costly to fight) Their government is very corrupt so "money" does count only. When I was there quite a while ago they would not even clean up dead bodies layting along the streets or roadways.

    Dutch,
They kidnapped the 42 school girls last year. Now they kill 2,000 innocent civilians. That's insane. The Nigerians should pay some mercenary group 500,000 to take an attack helicopter and kill 89 % of this group. Then we could see how tough the remaining 11% are. They seem like cowards. They don't fight anyone who is strong. So they are useless Bullies who attack the weak and defenseless. I am sick of these types.

I wish it were as easy as that. Nigeria is the size of the entire American heartland. Their military isn't equipped to take on a mission of that magnitude.

This civil war has been going on for over ten years now and the government has undoubtedly tried to wipe them out, but to no avail. I don't claim to have any answers as to how to stop the bloodshed, but am very frustrated with how the Western media covers different events in the world. A dozen people get killed by terrorists in France and the media gives it wall to wall coverage. 2,000 innocent civilians are slaughtered in Nigeria and it hardly receives a blip on the radar. It's pretty pathetic if you ask me.

    jared,
That's absolutely correct. I watch a fair amount of news every day and I've yet to see this covered or even mentioned. "Black Lives Matter" - apparently this message has not reached our news groups.
That's why my previous suggestion was that the Nigerians should hire this out. It would seem that they have no control or no interest in stopping these evil people. Their police and/or military could do much more if they were interested.

Tony; I guess by now you must know that the media is only interested if it can make money on it and sell their story; like in the case of this French happening they cut half of the tape because they are scared to publish reality and think that the American public only wants "movie" like things but can not stand a real video of any such slaughter. Did you see lately any recording of all the women and children we killed lately in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia with our bombing and drones? The news about that is totally controlled and censored you know by who. Sorry the US is an isolated island. The European news shows things as it is; that is the difference. Here we all are only fed what "they" want us to see. That is why AMC and J.C. think like they do.

Dutch you have no idea of what I think , you can only surmise, in other words a guess, an uneducated one at that, you don't where I've been, what I've done or what I achieved, if you want to opine on subjects ,fine, just don't use me as a comparison for your own personal views.

most of africa is what i call the "not allowed to develop" world. despite niall feguson's bleatings that the people of africa were taught democracy/government by their colonizers what they actually learned was crony capitalism from extractive industries that benefit the few at the top.

the death-style requires extractive resources. africa has some therefore africa is important from that standpoint. having pliable governments that can be bribed or demand bribes is merely a code on the ledger under expenses.

the human beings there and their condition?

    not of any import.

Sorry to say that both you and AMC are "indoctrinated" by our media/church/military etc. Just as example your back and forth discussions with others on the site proves such as well; who as a matter of fact even said worse things about you guys than I ever dared to say. Since you prefer to look only inward and not outward about what happens here and the world then you may as well become a home grown hermit.

I can also make the claim that you are indoctrinated in your own narcissistic way of thinking, a deist has more creditability than an atheist when it comes to a discussion of religion in a broader sense, you are completely closed minded when it comes to religious opinions, and being an atheist you should have very little input into any conversation about religious unless of course its for your own sense of self-worth and aggrandizement. but then again you are narcissistic.

So only religious people are qualified to have a conversation about religion? That makes sense...

Regardless--lets get this thread back on topic or just let it slide. We are doing the 2,000 innocent women and children a disservice by talking about who can or can't discuss something.
