I don't know if it will fly out the door more than it is now, but that's setting the bar pretty low. Budget sequestration hamstrings the Pentagon from spending more, and that won't change with a new Secretary.

I would disagree that we have no returns on investments though. Like it or not, the military is responsible for many things we are dependent on in our regular lives. From the internet to interstate highways, the military has played an important role in the average American's daily life. That doesn't mean that we should just keep spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year in an attempt to be the worlds policemen, but it also doesn't mean we have seen no return on investment whatsoever.
Sure you must be dreaming" a $400 million F35 is a great investment; also all our drones, let alone all the bombs we drop now; then on top of it, billions did disappear in Iraq and Afghanistan; then not even thinking about all the stolen equipment and its pricing; let alone the daily cost to keep this monster "fed" related to maintenance and fuel, saleries, food, Guantanomo bay, all the cost of our overseas bases, don't forget our cost for Airforce One, the adds on TV, cost of uniforms, cost of our cripled VA veterans, cost of buildings ( Pentagon) cost of the 999 generals, the cost of all the new ships, cost of maintaining a nuclear arsenal; write offs, cost of all our lost wars etc etc etc. Sure because of that, that "keeps America safe". What a total joke; now we get killed by home grown gun toting criminals ( a lot more than any terrorist can do) Like "Guy" said "xxxx" trillion without any return ; not even a "won" war. WOW.

I think you misread what I wrote. I fully agree with you that billions of dollars of American treasure is wasted on a yearly basis and I am just as angry as you about it. All I was pointing out is that there are more than a few things that we have had a return on investment on that an average American couldn't imagine being without--specifically the internet and the interstate highway system.

Every nation has to have a military and defense system, so it's not like we can just do away with the military. What we have to eventually figure out is how to have a military that protects us at home while not conducting foreign interventions for sport, as we did in Iraq.

We aren't leaving Europe anytime soon, either. That's mainly because European countries, as much as they like to hate us, are wholly dependent on us for their security. What do you honestly think would happen if America just packed up all of her bases and shipped every single solder stationed in Europe home? Do you think Russia would stop their belligerence and become a player on the world stage or would they try to bring back the former Soviet Union and then some? America is a deterrent to Russian aggression in Europe whether you like it or not. I'm not here to say that's a good or bad thing. It just is.

Jared; sure the internet and interstate highway system would have gotten here also without the Pentagon!!! Also that expenditure was done via other budgets.
As a matter of Hitler was the inventer of the "autobahn" system; we are running way behind Europe anyway in the "public transportation sector" Where are our "high speed rails? I can't even go from Ft. Myers to Orlando by public transportation!!! I guess Microsoft and Apple are the real drivers to make the internet work for public use; the military ( ask Snowdon) had other plans which do not benefit us!!!
Anyway I'm glad that you agree; that you should not buy "stocks" ( if they would be on the stock market) from that "company" !!!

The internet may have eventually been invented without the military, but it was still invented by the military. The highway system, on the other hand, was built solely as a means to transport nuclear and other weapons from A to B. It was billed to the public as a necessity to ensure safe passage in the event of a nuclear war, but anyone with a working brain knew that no type of road would help you if nuclear war broke out.

You get no argument from me there. Just think if we spent a fraction of the hundreds of billions of dollars that we spend on weapons of war on a 21st Century interstate transportation system. Imagine traveling on a train from New York to LA in a matter of hours or driver-less cars taking away the possibility another innocent child being killed by a drunk driver. That's our future, but we're too busy inserting ourselves in religious civil wars and stopping black people for walking or driving while black.

Thanks Jared' good answers; But coming back on "return of investment" I hope you are now aware that you would loose all your money if you would invest it with those nutheads.
