Thanks; If people observe what they are really getting into and think for a change, then they will have to come to the realization that they are being fed "snake oil" which causes dhiarea.

i don't care what people believe as long as they do not try to make their belief structure into law for the state.

You should care what people think because it affects your life in more ways than you think....you just don't notice anymore.
I'm at the local deli last week. I'm in a long line as always. A young man in his twenties is at the counter receiving his sandwich and paying for his items. They must have not put cheese on his sandwich because on his way back to the display case to point out the cheese he wanted....he decides that instead of taking one step back and walking around the rest of us (in line)...No, he's going to walk through us making us back up....He got away with it the first five people.
As he approaches me I stick my open hand on his chest and shoved him backwards. Funny...this man looked at me like I had stole Christmas.
I say " What...you don't see me standing here occupying this space? Walk around me *&$#(*&^".....he does
A customer who had moved for him says to me "he's not worth it"...... I reply....No sir, he is worth it....that young man doesn't even see you, he sees only himself and has probably done it a hundred times prior...........Not today...and not with me. I introduced him to a something called "a little consideration"
I've been out of prison five years now...and I must say, the very first noticeable thing was the inconsideration of everybody. Many believe that they can do, say, and act however they feel....and that maybe we should be more tolerant. Not me. I practice intolerance. You see, if someone is unable to see me, then I will happily introduce my self to you.
I only give this example but there have been many other instances for me to where I've had to correct someone's manners.

The same applies to politics, ideology, and legislation........ people's thoughts do affect you. You should care what they think....always

i most certainly notice. some things i ignore and some things i do not. inconsideration i ignore or address as i think the situation requires. there most certainly is a lack of courtesy in the world and it is a function of rw libertarianism and selfishness. ayn rand hasn't received half the kicking around she deserved.

but that isn't the point of christianity. christianity or rather judaism as spoken of by the christ is of the golden rule which is consideration/courtesy at its highest level. christianity as spoken of by paul and then put in practice by "the church", something the christ did not start nor aim to start, is about castigating "the other" to the point of violence. this is primarily why i wrote of preventing religion from becoming the law of the state.

    Lonely.

then what are they reading? what scripture do they follow? It's hard even having this conversation because there is no proof that a Jesus even existed. I'm very confident that this is the case.
Religion should be a crime in this country....child abuse. Parents unable to spank their children for fear of prison, and yet, get applauded for poisoning their brains.
just don't prevent religion from becoming law of the state...prevent religion from being a part of earth.

excellent points, la. I read bart ehrman's books which look at christianity, as he is a professor of religion and an agnostic, from the historical perspective. his latest is "how jesus became god" which looks at the development of the theology that moved across time resulting in jesus becoming not simply a man but god. it is intriguing. and it points out that the process is theology.

man will never release religion. parke godwin noted in his fiction "the snake oil wars" that man suffers from having a mind capable of questioning and considering the infinite in a finite body.

Man won't release religion because most of the world lives on 5.00 a day. It isn't secret knowledge....it's poverty and ignorance. You can always see how well countries are doing economically by how much presence of a god there is in that particular country.. the poorer you are, god seems to be on every corner,
but in countries that take care of their own people....god is that uncle who gets invited to Thanksgiving but nobody wants around.

In prison I read this book by Karen Armstrong " A history of God", in a nutshell, she breaks down the big three (Christianity, islam, hindu) and explains the history of the people in correlation to why and how religion took hold....based on many factors unrelated to mysticism.

As a young man I never really gave religion any validity. Even at 12, not knowing much about anything I was able to recognize pure nonsense just utilizing some common sense....especially from the people I knew. Apparently,,,, in my neighborhood Jesus was a liberal ....... as much booze, drugs, and sex he allowed. never made any sense. Not any

L.A. absolutely right; I guess people do not realize that we all including the preachers are bound to this earth; the same applies to the poor and the rich; the hereafter what is preached is the same for everyone including the preachers as well as the Jesus hippy. Death is the same for every living thing even a tree; except a tree may be does not feel pain. If all the "believers" would "believe" that fact that we are nothing at all in the universe and that we as people can not dictate the universe what to do or think, but are just stuck on this floating rock and have only a very limited lifespan, then I would spent my time better than sitting in church and looking for all exuses like "blessing" us for all the murders we commit worldwide because we want power and money so we are allowed to make other peoples life's misarable all over the globe under the cover of "religion".
