Julia Pierson's resignation seemed all but certain after her disastrous testimony yesterday and subsequent revelation that an armed person got inside of an elevator with President Obama when he was visiting the CDC in Atlanta two weeks ago. If that weren't scary enough, the President wasn't even informed of this incident until yesterday. Needless to say, it's not surprising that President Obama gladly accepted Ms. Pierson's resignation. While it's understandable that the President accepted her resignation, I think the problems at the Secret Service go far deeper than the person at the top.

The Secret Service is portrayed as an unbreakable and impenetrable, but these recent revelations show that they are anything but. It is frightening to think the Secret Service was unaware that an armed individual was standing within inches of the President. The only reason they even found out anything is because this same person was taking pictures of the President on that elevator and they asked him to stop.

Ensuring the President is properly protected should be one of the few things that should have broad bipartisan acceptance. People of all political stripes should want to make sure that those entrusted with protecting the President are competent and able to do their job. I just hope that whoever replaces her is able to right the ship.

She was obviously incompetent and never should have moved up the ladder to the top but that's how the system works more often than not? I can imagine when Obama found out how bad he was actually being protected in the WH the shit hit the wall and she was a goner! It's hard to believe this agency has been so poorly managed for so long.

Although some spokesperson insinuated that cutbacks were partially to blame for the White House intruder, there is no excuse for the elevator incident where an armed man with a criminal background rode with the President of the United States in a confined place while visiting the CDC in Atlanta,Ga. I wonder if this the same group/team of agents that failed to detect the nut job posing as an sign interpreter at a International event, where our President was an attendee.
