Looking at all the "threads" of the past period,I get the impression that people here put their priorities on things which are only centered in the US itself.
For instance there are many more readers for Ferguson on anything in football or in their own interest than worldwide issues which may affect the US .
Since this is a political site; political things are more or less in the background; for instance the mid-term elections. Plus of course things which affect all of us eventually; I wrote quite a few points about Russia and the Ukraine, the mess in Iraq/Syria; very little reader interest. I guess people here are way to self centered; far from their bed shows do not interests them, let alone other cultures or for instance how other countries may have better systems of government, which they could learn from. Footbal, baseball etc. is just a sport; the way it is viewed here is if their lives are dependant on that. The same with guns.
So I wonder do we indeed live on an island? I do think so. (I also think because of that our international policies are flawed)

In some respects I agree, but I always like to hear about people's travels and some new world issues. Or world successes. However, this is a Democratic Hub for United States citizens. Few, if any, people living outside the US would be a Democratic voter, or citizen, so those subjects of international concern would not come up here as often. Many of us are wrapped up in the turmoil of US politics, to the exclusion of Foreign screw-ups beyond our control : ) Just keeping this Govt in operation takes all our energy -- and frankly, who can even PRONOUNCE half of those Arabic names of countries we never even knew existed, prior to 9/11 ? And their leader's names are like alphabet soup upside down. (Oy vey).

    Dutch,
If this site was 100% politics it would not hold my interest. It would be the same thing all of the time. Repost what you posted 4 years ago, just change the names. People discuss different issues (Ferguson/ Race relations - Ray Rice/violence against women) because they are things that effective many people. Most can't discuss the way other countries govern their people but a few who have traveled extensively can. There are often topics that don't interest me that much. So I pick and choose as I believe most do. Often topics that I expected to be more active were not. That is in part because the small numbers of those who visit the site and do or do not contribute.

Tony you are right; the reason I put this forward is quite simple; Ferguson about 2300 plus viewers; Isis or Ukraine may be 15 as an example ( these are not exact numbers; but give an idea what bothers me) While I think Ferguson (sure interresting also for me) is not as important to everyone on this world as ISIS or the Ukraine; like I said if a Delta plane was shot down with all Americans on board then I guess there would be 10,000 replies etc.
So in other words I've got the feeling that we only have a very limited audience if I look at the views numbers; which is surprising; it is not facebook by a longshot for sure. Any suggestions to get a broader audience?

I enjoy this site mainly because of it's diverse views on many domestic issues, I once read a quote from a learned man by the name of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, that the gist of was, that a circle of like minded men who reach a certain conclusion all of which might not be the right conclusion, this why the diverse opinions and different conclusions reached on this site makes it a very interesting site.

Sure I believe you; however since I've been on the site; I basicly know the whole clan; including you and what you think or what your opnion is.
So at a certain moment I really don't know what to reply because it is then the same answers or repeat of the past. Take for example "religion", then I already know AMC, Eternal and perhaps you come with the same "ontwijkende antwoorden" which means like being deaf and dumb and run in big circles around "facts"; very anoying indeed. Others are really great and to the point like Tony, Jared, Schmidt, Guy, Schneider, Zach (not always) but lately I must say very few new people join; mostly "radicals" or people who like to undermine the site. Some people hook off because they can't stand critism. So my question again is how can we attract more "thinking" people to the site? ( especially who have influence in Washington)

Great question. That can only be answered by those who administrate, or moderate. What is done to attempt to gain new or additional members to the site ? I've visited other sites and most were huge. Probably too big. I don't even know who runs this show. Kosko, Jared, and I suppose a few more. To those in charge, members are asking..... Is anything being done to encourage new members to visit ? Or, are we happy to be a small pizza shop who makes about 300.00 a night.

Moderators, please read the above 4 - 5 posts. It's being asked if anything is done to attempt to increase site visitors. The viewership is very low. Many days, it's not until mid/late afternoon until there's 3 new posts. If you like living in an efficiency apartment (small inactive site) that's fine. Some are curious if anything is done to encourage additional visits to the site. Please advise. I'll flag this post (never done that before) to bring attention to the question.
    Thank you,

I've keep quiet on this partly because I'm very busy right now but I do gave a few thoughts and I'll try to get them out. Unfortunately I Proably access the site 95% of the time on my iPad which makes long and detailed post very difficult. If I get really worked up I can go upstairs to my real computer and have a lot more to say. It's very true that all of us "regulars" pretty much know what what everyone less thoughts are on a subject and we know we aren't about to change anyone's mind - this is why I rarely respond to "regulars" in any detail. We certainly do get our share of nutcases though and it's not hard to figure out who they are and how long they'll be around so it's kind of fun leading them on! If you check out the deleted posts (as I do everyday) you'll find lots of psychos come here and drop all kinds of foul bombs and total nonsense almost daily. Fortunately, the mods do a good job at weeding these types out but the are more than a little zealous when they start to censor the regulars posts. I don't think there is one regular poster here that has ever posted anything even close to the level of being deleted, yet, it happens all too often. I've seen many, many good people leave this site because of what they consider harassment by the mods and in many cases I have to agree with them. I've gone to other sites myself and found them to be much to busy and I'm overwhelmed by all the posts to the extent that I just don't go back. One reason I enjoy this site is because it isn't full of hundreds of posters all fighting to be heard above the others. The mods (owners?) do a good job in hiding the extent of their true involvement but I think we can all assume who they are and most likely they are all in their middle thirties and probably went to college together in Texas where they decided to enter the "bloggisphere". They have become more upfront about who they are recently and I find that to be good and hope they continue in that track in the future. In closing I have to admit that if this site was a lot more popular I probably would move on myself as I enjoy the closeness of the community (even though I disagree with a lot of what some of you post)! I hope this doesn't format as one long sentence as that is not the way I wrote it but most likely, it will.
