Media Matters, July 30, 2014: Eric Boehlert On MSNBC's All In: Right-Wing Echo Chamber Is "An Incredibly Lucrative Business"

Media Matters, Eric Boehlert appeared on MSNBC's Chris Hayes show to talk about the influence and profitability of the right wing echo chamber. By the echo chamber they cite right wing talk radio as well as Fox News and independent entities like Glenn Beck's website channel.

They lead off with the topic of Sarah Palin's new web channel, with Palin hoping to copy the success of Glenn Beck after he left Fox News and went out on his own. Glenn Beck's endeavor is raking in between $35 and $45 million per year. Palin is initially charging $9.95 per month for the privilege of viewing her website. Chris Hayes says what she is doing makes total business sense...this is smart.

Hayes notes there is just so much money to be made selling conservatism in America...but why is this so lucrative?

As Boehlert notes it a an incredibly lucrative business to be in as the right wingers faithfully listen to right wing talk radio or watch Fox News hour after hour, day after day, exclusively. It's in their DNA. The other media outlets may just as well not exist. They have zero attraction from the right.

As such, those media outlets like Beck's web channel have to continually feed their viewers "what they want to hear" and nothing else. It's all about playing to their emotions. Facts don't matter or rather false facts need to be made up out of thin air.

I'm sure Sarah Palin will be somewhat successful in her endeavor because she does have a faithful band of followers and doesn't worry about facts or intellectual thought either. If just 10,000 sign up and pay the $9.95 per month, she will rake in $1.2 million in revenue per year...that's considerably less than Beck's company, but hey it will buy her lots of designer eye glasses.

I'm kind of amazed at the rate these people find support and profit from it. Slowly but surely this propaganda machine may affect any elections.
What are we going to do as Democrats to counter such? Sorry to say, Obama nor Harry Reed are not that popular on TV.
