President Obama on Thursday requested $500 million from Congress to train and equip what the White House is calling "appropriately vetted" members of the Syrian opposition. Here we go, getting involved in a civil war in the middle east.

Well, as long as they are "appropriately vetted" then what could possibly go wrong? The United States ALWAYS does the right thing in the middle east, right? We ALWAYS support the right side! We have such a GOOD track record of getting in the middle of conflicts in that part of the world. Our predictions ALWAYS come true.

Half a billion to "train and equip" a bunch of hard core radical Islamic killers who will then turn around and kill their trainers. Just like happened in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then they turn on themselves and anyone and everyone else. They only exist to kill people. And we are going to give these guys more guns and training to make them even more effecient killers?

    Do we never learn?

"appropriately vetted"? Who really believes there's a way to understand who these people are and what their intentions are?

I guess this will make things all better, or maybe much worse. Worse would be my guess.

"jamesn" absolutely correct; they do not have the money here to create jobs for the infrastructure here which is badly needed, but throw a billion towards Poland/Ukraine and also Kerry offered lots of money for Egypt again for weapons and now the 500 million as you said. I guess they have money to burn for all kinds of things which does not help this country one bit; instead it may bite us in the butt. I guess the "war" lobbyists are behind all of this. As you and I said many times, it serves only a few rich people who like to get even richer and don't give a hoot about live or death let alone the health of this country.

I say go ahead and arm the Syrian military so that when we end up of fighting them, which we will sooner or later, it would be a fair fight, 500 million ? Good thing our roads and bridges are up to snuff as is our health care system, and we won't even mention the state of the educational system from primary up to the collage level, suffice to say ,it's safe to they are all self sufficient. Why can't we stay out of the affairs of other nations particularly if they are not even our Allies.

J.C. Yes, I wonder if we are the stupid one's and only Washington got brains; but elections alone will not give them more brains; so what can we do?
Anyway the way things are going, it is time they buy some more land in Arlington, may be it will be needed for more "crosses" if we continue on this path.

I hate to be called a Constitutionalist but will someone in Congress please read the damn thing , I am certain the founders did not envision 50 States with 100 Senators and 300+ Representatives that would be needed to govern this Nation, not counting the President and his staff and Cabinet, so many of our ills can be resolved just by reading the document as it is written and acting on it.

Can you expand on this? What exactly do you mean when you suggest that you are certain the founders didn't envision "50 states with 100 Senators and 300+ Representatives'? Were you around back in the late 1700's? Have you personally spoken with any of our Founding Fathers and asked them what they were envisioning two hundred plus years ago?

There were thirteen states when the Constitution was ratified. Article IV Section III provided the specific framework to add new states to the Union.

If we were to read the document as it was enacted in 1789 then we would still have slaves, women and blacks would have no rights, and property owners would be the only citizens allowed to vote, just to name a few. That's what I love about strict 'Constitutionalists.' It's easy to say to just 'follow the document', but they feel the need to gloss over all the negative parts of it that had to be corrected by We the People.

You so love to debate the undebatable, so, no I don't know what they envisioned, it's just my opinion on what they might of thought about the course of this new Nation was embarking on, but without that document ,you might still be part of the crown, or giving the course of the WWII and without our involvement you might be goose stepping down your main street. As far the slavery issue goes, check the document ,you will see that that issue was changed sometime ago. BTW, I never suggested that our Congress read the Document as it was originally written but I wanted them to read the current version, and I am not a constitutionalist, so don't even go there.

American armed drones are now flying over Iraq allegedly to "protect American troops and diplomats". That makes sense, right?

"MISSION CREEP" is what they called it in Vietnam. You set out to do just one thing, then just a little more, then more, then you have hundreds of thousands of troops. MISSION CREEP.

Hopefully President Obama is not stupid enough to get us into another all-out shooting war in Iraq. Hopefully.

In addition to our drones and manned "recon" flights over Iraq, Iran is flying their drones there, too.

Meanwhile somewhere someone is trying to decide who the "good guys" are in the civil war in Syria, so that we can go over there and train and equip them.

We will undoubtedly end up making a bad situation even worse. We just about always do.

Yes "jamesn" I'm still surprised that the world watches all of this and keeps their mouth shut. I guess they think let the US do what they always do.
Our arrogant attitude of sticking our noses into a wasp nest will have consequences for sure.
In this case you may as well desolve the UN it is no longer functioning. My question has been right from the start, why do we need an Embassy of 6 football fields with 5000 employee's in that country? Has it become an colony of the US? (I guess so, because of the oil?) So we have to protect OUR interest, which is "money" from the oil. The funny thing we are complaining about Russia; sorry we are not a "hair" better.

Holy slop-bucket, what the heck is going on? Your latest posts are hilarious, except for the fact that the whole mess is REAL. It is like some night-mare comedy routine. Do we actually have armed drones flying over Iraq, while IRAN also has armed drones flying over Iraq? Somebody must be on acid over there, or in the Pentagon. Are these drones remote controlled? What exactly is their mission? To do surveillance, or to drop bombs, or to just scare the crap out of the camels? What FUEL do they use? (I hope solar, to not bankrupt the US). Lots of FREE "sunshine" over in the Iraqi desert.

OH, GEE: What if nasty "enemy" Iran should learn how to remotely control one of OUR drones & make it crash into a village, like Tikrit or Fallujah. WE would get the blame for that, of course, & have to engage in another long-term WAR in Iraq for another 10 or 11 years. Hmmmm - Hey, maybe that is exactly what the Pentagon boys might want. They sure don't want to "retire" just yet, do they?

Didn't Iran or some other country get ahold of one of our drones after it crashed? I think it's happened a couple of times.

You know who else was "appropriately vetted"... and then trained by U.S. Troops? The Iraqi military. They had our weaponry, our hummers, our training. What did they do when ISIS came barreling toward them? They took off their uniforms, left ALL the weapons and vehicles there, then just left. Why should we train anyone over there or supply weapons? Time and time again, it’s been proven to be a bad idea. The most famous example of this? The CIA trained and armed Osama bin Laden back in the day. That turned out very well.

Let’s pretend that we trained and armed the Syrian opposition. Whoever is left standing, will still hate us. It is their duty as Islamist, to kill infidels. The Quran states it quite clearly. Although, so does the Bible. We all know that both of these holy books are all about peace…… Is there a sarcasm emoticon on this thing?

Yes, you voiced it correctly; I said a few times in my threads; "Religion is the curse of humanity" It has become more and more the fact. I guess the bible and koran writers were not aware of what they created. At that time "science" was far from their bed ,I guess.

And this afternoon the Huffington Post is reporting that Obama has ordered another 300 troops to be sent in to "beef up security" and protect...YADA, YADA, YADA, lies, lies, lies and more lies.

It doesn't really matter what they say...it's all lies.

How many more will be sent next week? Another 300? 1000? 10,000?

    STUPID STUPID STUPID

Stupid is as stupid does. Hello President Obama.

They always taught us as kids, that INSANITY is doing the same thing 3 times that did NOT work the first 2 times. I guess it is built into warfare that humans will always use war as a solution, when actually war is only a convenient way to reduce the population. But heck, its made a lot of RAMBO movies and G.I. Joe toys really profitable. I guess GOP has profit motives for almost everything. Look for Egyptian soldier dolls on camels pretty soon.

Yes, I heard that Osama binLaden was actually trained by our CIA, also. He was supposed to help us defeat the Russians in Afghanistan, or some weird scenario like that. Then we named him "terrorist #1". Meanwhile, Daddy BinLaden, who was big in the construction business in a Muslim nation there,
was buying stock in Arbusto Oil and Harken Energy (both owned by Geo."W" Bush). Such a cozy situation. Both Bush & BinLaden made a fortune by investing in those weapons industry & OIL stocks, as the Iraqi War escalated. (Maybe another form of "insider trading")?
