Well, I just watched an episode of the show Vice on HBO. It spoke of the mass escalation of Rhino killing in South Africa. The reason is some old Vietnamese used to believe it had magical medicinal powers. It's since been proven that it is equivalent to your finger nails. However, many in Vietnam
now have much money. So buying these horns / or pieces of them, is now in high fashion. Like buying designer items. The cost of 100 grams of Rhino horn is now higher than the price of gold. It's a status symbol. It's smuggled into Vietnam. The govt. is slow to react. The numbers of Rhino are decreasing at an alarming pace. Since the price has gone up, the poaching has increased as well. Sometimes they tranquilize the animal and cut off the front of their face to get the horn. A slow painful death for the animal.
I tried to post a link by the BBC but that has been made more complicated. I do not know how to post a link....
I think this is an important topic though. Too often the wrong thing is done
in the name of money.

I tend to believe that desecration of animal life, & pollution of the atmosphere & water, are the
most awful and despicable actions of humans on the earth. At the rate they are increasing, it
makes enjoyment of natural land a horrific sight, instead of a peaceful experience. I would begin
to hate my fellow man for this brutal behavior, but I believe & hope MOST would never do that.
On the other hand, what CAN we do? Profit seems to motivate everything these days, & fewer
seem to have normal decent morality guiding their conscience. Maybe by advertising that the
horns of rhino's have nothing any better than chewing your own fingernails, could be helpful.
All this plundering of innocent animals, all this senseless slaughter, will eventually lead to a
day of reckoning. Nature will learn to retaliate. We will find a planet full of diseased animals,
and water impossible to drink. Then the air itself will be unbreatheable. Bye-Bye, humans.

.......and just when you think that animals are the only target of opportunity comes random shootings in the streets. Now in cities across America there's a new thrill to hunt and shoot drivers in vehicles. A favorite game for gun enthusiasts is to drive around highways and streets looking for someone to shoot. Maybe they can't find that rhino, big cat, or black bear, but they sure can find unsuspecting drivers to aim at and shoot. Imagine driving peacefully on a road and bullets come in your direction, hitting your vehicle, penetrating the door panels or glass and hitting you in the arm, leg or head. Now imagine, asking yourself where did that come from as the cars around you pass quickly without noticing your trauma. The people using their guns such as this violence is just hunting their animals. Yes, your the rhino, big cat, deer and black bear.
Strict Gun Control is demanded from common sense to mitigate these acts of uncontrolled rage. The people using their guns like the above random shootings must have a mental illness and/or just plain stupidity and lack of humanity.
Support Strict Gun Control and Mental Health Initiatives. I'll additionally will say on this thread, Support you State Conservation and Game Control Initiatives.

POACHER is the word for people who shoot rhinos for their horns. Not "hunter", POACHER.
CRIMINAL is the word for someone who drives around looking for someone to shoot drivers in vehicles. Not "gun enthusiast", CRIMINAL.
The vast majority of hunters are law abiding and eat what they kill or donate the animal to places which will process the meat for homeless shelters.
The vast majority of gun enthusiasts are law abiding people who don't hunt other people.
As always, there are a few who give a whole group a bad name. That's true for any group of people.

Tony I'm just clearing up the proper definition of a couple of words used previously on this thread.
You think it was a "knife enthusiast" who stabbed the kids at the school today?
I would classify him as a "criminal", at least until we learn more about him, then maybe other descriptive words can be accurately applied.
Sounds like all the victims will recover, thank goodness.
If someone were to remove all the ..."valid, just misplaced"... points that people post on this DemocraticHub, there would be a lot less content on here. Just look at all the threads which start out political and end up all about religion, and that's just one example.
