I believe that we need to agree on what the bible is....what the message is .... and its application

I really want to know what the bible is in your opinion.

I believe the bible to be a book of laws. a book that requires your obedience.... a book that's not asking for your opinion, interpretation or input.

I never believe what people tell me....I observe behavior. Behavior is the output of beliefs.....

The main message contained in the New Testament is love one another as you would love yourself and to seek God's grace in your daily living.

Whenever someone announces to me that they are Christians.....I observe them. no words need to be said. A Christian reveals himself from action,,not announcements...

I was actually watching this preacher trying to give away miracle water for a donation) and guaranteed 100 percent that his follwers would receive money and wealth by simply having his water

LA, If you experienced correctly that what you saw a minister of God's word selling Holy water for donations, than there are numerous scriptures in the Bible that speak to us about false teachers. Those that mislead the people with false teachings are held liable for their actions by God on Judgment day. I assure you, I can believe what you say about your experiencing this questionable act, but the world is full of people corrupt and venomous to mislead God's people. We are but sheep, which needs a Shepherd to lead us. A shepherd that misleads his flock does so with greed, sin and corruption. He will have his judgment, just like us all. I encourage you to read the Bible and you find how the Words come to Life.

The question was : The "bible" what is it?

The answer is terrible simple: a book as all books, written by "humans". As a matter of fact a "compilation" of a a whole bunch of writers.
Since this book is very old (some portions are older; the newest about 1926 years ago) it always will be a contentious book.
It includes some "father on son" history and a lot of imagination; like "humans" who can walk on water and like a Moses who can divert river waters with a hand gesture etc.

The Bible need not be confusing if you take the precept of loving and caring as it is, the rest of the Books are but guidelines to follow and become a better Christian, that is where the difficulty begins.

here lies the problem....the bible doesn't allow practice. when u convert...u follow the rules... backsliding is the first notification of lack of faith. you cannot have a special relationship with god if you claim Christianity.....there is a Christian relationship....so you must follow the bible in accordance with church practices and dogma,

you as a police officer took an oath to follow police regulation....you have no discretion,,,,it isn't up to you. This is why I attack people who claim to be Christian. in all my life I can honestly say that I have met two people who are Christian. people go to church and then invent all kinds of interpretations that usually coincide with their road of least resistence

No, I did not follow the rules implicitly I excerised some discretion on quite a few things, the same with following Christian values, we cannot attain perfection, we can only strive for it, there will always be setbacks in our lives, we will continue to have conflicts within ourselves as to whether we are doing God's will or being subjected to our own free will. The answer is in the striving for better Christian values and being honest with yourself.

correct, not perfection,,,,,but to strive for it daily. afterall he gave his only begotten son up (remember??) And according to the church, his teachings are the way to salvation.....Don't you feel that after he died for your sins,,,that you owe him as close to perfection is one can get

When I was growing up, I read the Bible constantly. I was raised Southern Baptist. I've read it cover to cover about 6 times at various times in my life. My mother even thought I was going to be preacher.

From what I can tell, there is no over arcing message in the Bible. It is a collection of stories and myths that have been bound together and promoted as something more. Some of those stories might have a moral aspect, while others are devoid of all hints that any kind of morality exists, and most of them have nothing to do with morality or how to live your life and are just stories. This is also the reason the Bible has so many contradictions. The stories were not created with a Biblical forethought in mind. The Council of Nicea picked and chose books and then tried to link them all together. So you get the same consistency as putting together Moby Dick, Harry Potter Series, Prometheus, Julius Caesar, and Grapes of Wrath. You get a little bit of everything.

Did God really give up anything at all? Isn't his only son up there in Heaven with him? Worst case scenario, he gave up his son for about 35 years to go live with mortals and then took him right back. There was no sacrifice.
