The Supreme Court seemed poised to strike down the Affordable Care Act's birth control mandate after today's 90 minute hearing made it strikingly clear that these old men have little to zero understanding of reproductive health and are willing to usher in a greatly expanded definition of religious freedom. While the parameters of today's debate played out exactly as expected, it was still a sad show of how ignorant and out of touch the conservative majority is.

I don't know if Justice Roberts or Justice Kennedy disappointed me more with their sheer ignorance of reproductive health and science. Chief Roberts suggested a companies belief that the morning after pill is an abortion is more than enough to green light a religious exemption to a Federal law. It doesn't matter if that belief is based on any fact whatsoever because it's a belief. Not to be outdone, Justice Kennedy suggested the Governments reasoning would give Congress the authority to force companies to pay for abortions. He must have forgotten the part of the ACA that explicitly forbids that. Facts be damned, this court is intent on conflating birth control with abortion coverage.

The one shining moment of today's hearing was the courts three female justices line of questioning. They put Paul Clement, the lawyer arguing that private companies should be exempt from a law because they feel like it, back on his heels with their questions. It should not go unnoticed that every female on the court seemed ardently against Hobby Lobby's case. That may not matter though because a bunch of old men feel they have the power to control the health decisions a woman can make. It really makes me wonder if this great country of ours truly is as great as we keep telling ourselves.

Yes; you said it right; but yeah that is indeed part of our stupid rules on having no term limits being applicable to these old indoctrinated buzzerts.

I'm afraid the founding fathers are turning over in their graves on a regular basis as they sit up there in heaven, next to St Peter & God, watching the political clowns destroying the USA in the name of God and old while men.

Unfortunately, the Supremes are nothing more than an extended arm of the Conservative controlled and paid for US Congress. As Romney said "Corporations are people, my friends" - that just about says it all!

Jared, I have to admit and agree with Boxer that these old men making decisions on Health Care exempting women rights to birth control completely ignore the Viagra issue. These old men would probably change their tune if Viagra was up for an exemption. Am I wrong in thinking this way? Does it make sense to control and exempt Health Care support for birth control and than allow support for Viagra? It doesn't make sense. It's the selfish old men that are dictating to the women to shut up and lie on the bed. The old men know what is important...........their satisfaction and to heck with women.

The government spends $819 million annually on Viagra, $782 million annually on Cialis, and $172 million in the last five years on penis pumps. Ensuring that women have adequate access to birth control? That's just a bridge too far.

Talking about "old men"; saw on Bloomberg an interview of a guy from Michigan a Democrat (Levin) about "money" for the Ukraine; the guy had been sitting in Washington; since 1982!! He barely could open his lips to speak in a monotome mumble. No wonder this country can't be governed properly.
When are they going to wake up and install TERM LIMITS; this way it always will be a an old age home in Washington. NUTS.
