We must ban programs like the Sea Cadets and Young Marines! They are teaching our kids to kill!

Let's not forget ROTC either! And while we're at it let's start teaching kids skills they can actually use like compassion, understanding, a work ethic, love, non-violence, etc, etc, instead of violence in the disguised firm of after school sports and sick video gams.

PGR, all those things that you mentioned ,all of them are traits and skills that most children are born with, we, as parents or guardians teach them otherwise by our words and actions .

Sea Cadets, Young Marines, ROTC all combined do not do as much harm as ..."sick video games"... as pgr points out. And don't forget violent movies, they contribute their share as well.

You think Hollywood or the video game makers are going to quit? Not as long as they are making money.

They go where the money is made and it is in violent movies and games and so I don't see them changing anytime soon.

So you want to ban violent media. I am sick of censorship and the nanny state! I don't want to live in a Demolition Man utopia! In that movie everything that was bad for you was banned period. And coincidentally the so called "mayor" looked just like Michael Bloomberg. I used to be a hard core liberal in Junior High and High School until I got sick of both liberals and conservatives telling me how to live my life. I played these violent video games and movies you speak of when I was young and yet I had no desire to go out and murder someone. And although I come from a military family I never wanted to be Infantry or Special Operations.

I was in a Air Force affiliated cadet program in a school in a wealthy area that had a more than ninety percent of students college bound with no military service obligation attached and I never learned any combat tactics. I did learn aerospace science, astronomy, map reading, and organizational skills. Those are not brutal skills are they? I thought marching was boring and repetitive though. I did think some of these skills played a big part of what major I chose. I am a big aviation enthusiast who hopes to work for NASA someday if it not defunded by the idiots in the government. And my air cadet squadron worked with several community service clubs helping the less fortunate.

One of my favorite games is Mass Effect. Although a military character you can choose to have Commander Shepard act as a diplomat to help other people.

OK, why do Americans shoot one another so much?

In my country we allow the use of guns for approved purposes. The difference between us and you is that we control and know who owns them. There are very few gun deaths here. Because we do not let lunatics and criminals legally get their hands on guns. And all handguns, except for members of approved gun clubs, are banned.

Your 2nd Amendment is killing you - literally.

Why? Because we can. Because there are more guns than people here, and that's not going to change anytime soon. You probably don't like that, but it's a fact.

Our lunatics and criminals get guns because guns are readily available, and those type people tend not to obey laws anyway, they don't care if it's against the law for them to have guns. There are LOTS of laws that criminals don't obey-that's what makes them criminals.

Welcome to America, but you aren't going to change the gun violence, so try not to let it bother you too much. If it keeps you from sleeping at night, get some sleeping pills. Americans love pills. Lots of countries have problems (even yours, perhaps?) and gun violence is only one of ours.

Our second amendment is not going to change. And, lots of things are killing us, not just guns.

Well, to be perfectly honest, you can shoot one another much as you like. After all, there are 320 million of you. A few tens of thousands per annum probably won't be missed. If you let fruitcakes and crackheads get hold of guns, you can probably expect to get shot.

But it seems absurd that you let it happen. But then you let MacDonalds, Monsanto, and BP oil happen.

I guess it's just an American thing. Keep it there.

BTW, your 2nd Amendment is an international joke. Nowhere did it allow moronic Crips and Bloods or whatever your latest gangs are to acquire guns. Yet all they need to do is pop into the nearest gun fair, no questions asked.

Maybe you think those companies are not already all over the world?

And, I hate to break the bad news to you, but one of those is not even an American company. Yet "we" let it happen?
