Last night I recorded a show on National Geographic channel called: Hunting Hitler's Stolen Treasures. It was made because of the popularity of the new movie: The Monuments Men (with a great cast). Some of the cast appeared in the documentary and some scenes were shown. 98% of the show was about the historical look at Hitler's massive stealing of incredible art work during world war II. It was a very good show - if it's telecast again - I would highly recommend watching it.
It was reported and I don't recall this being in the news, but in 2011 in Munich, much of the stolen art was found in an apartment while searching in an investigation of tax evasion. 1.3 billion dollars worth of stolen treasures. At the end of the war "The Monuments Men" found much including very important masterpieces and much stolen gold. It advised how at the end the Russians were invading from the east and how they intended to acquire much of the stolen treasures. Of course we were the good guys from the west trying to preserve art/culture/and civilization.

I found stories on the internet about the recent Munich find worth 1.3 B but I couldn't get the link to paste. I'm sure a quick search will show that story - if you're interested.

Most of the gold stolen was from the Jews; in the extermination camps they even pulled the golden teeth from the victims and plundered their houses etc.

The Jews had their valuable artwork stolen from them as well. And jewels. I wonder how much of this stuff ended up in South America when many German's fled at the end of the war.

Tonight on 60 minutes is a story where they discuss who should have ownership of the stolen art. Previously it was said to be worth more than a Billion dollars. Since it was stolen, I sure hope the German who had it all doesn't get to keep any of it. Anyways will find out in two hours. It should be interesting.
