Well the Winter Olympics started today. Telecast starts tonight at 8:00 on NBC.
Our good friends in Russia are having some problems. Construction on hotels, roads, etc. is not yet done.
Being completed at the last second. Water in some places has been reported and shown to look similar to beer.
Stray dogs seem to be everywhere. This really bothers the host. They've hired an exterminating company to kill
as many of them as possible. Either with tranquilizer darts or poison meat.
Toilet stalls instructing people not to put toilet paper into the toilets. Toilets in stalls, 2 toilets in one stall. 1 roll of paper.
People checking into hotel rooms that are not yet completed.

Tony yes Sochi has problems, but if the terrorists get lucky just once, these problems could pale in comparison. A successful suicide bomber or an airliner taken down and all this stuff won't be quite so newsworthy.

Lots of these things seem incomprehensible to Americans but to people who have traved quite a bit overseas, especially in some third world countries, some of this stuff is not so surprising.

I just hope the Games are completed safely and if so, most of these inconveniences will seem humorous in hindsight. Maybe some people who survive the experience will even have some great memories, and a little more appreciation for our standard of living here in the good old USA. We take LOTS of things for granted.

Thanks Tony for sharing this. I have to admit I burst out laughing at some of the "toilet humor."

The Dog issue is the one that I think will get the most press. A dog wandered into a rehearsal for the opening ceremonies... The official said It would be such an embarrassment if this were to happen during the actual ceremonies. When questioned about killing the dogs.... an official said lets be serious here.... We're talking about biological garbage. Again, Americans have very different standards. I would imagine most of Europe, Canada, and other developed countries would be offended by the killings also. We'll see if it gets swept under the rug. Keith Olbermann on ESPN made a big deal about it last night. Noting that the Westminster Dog show is starting soon.

NBC's Richard Engel brought in a new computer and smart phone along with a computer expert to detect hacking. Engel was hacked in a matter of minutes on both his smart phone and computer.

His advice...do not bring into Sochi any computer or smart phone containing personal and valuable information like bank accounts. You will be hacked.
