WSJ has reported that actor, Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his Manhattan apartment "with a needle in his arm." He was one of my favorite actors. I loved him Patch Adams, Twister, and MI:3.

Obviously, suspected cause of death is drug overdose, but nothing is confirmed yet. If this turns out to be true, it will be really sad to see another great actor destroy himself with drug overdose.

    He will be greatly missed.

    The Big Lebowski
    Almost Famous
    Synecdoche, New York

Some of my favorite movies right there. He had a hell of a run; 63 films in roughly 24 years according to IMDB. I will definitely miss him and his work. It really is a shame this happened.

L.A. is right, he chose to do the drugs, now he's paid the price. I didn't see him in too many movies but he was pretty good. If not for drugs we may have gotten 30 more years of great performances.

He joins a long list from the entertainment world who've killed themselves with drugs:
    Jim Morrison
    Janis Joplin
    Elvis Presley
    Amy Winehouse
    Michael Jackson
    Whitney Houston
    Jimi Hendrix
The list is almost endless, and these are just a few of the big names off top of my head.

Who's the most famous? I'd say a tie between Elvis and Michael Jackson, and ironically they were related (kind of) when Elvis' daughter "married" MJ for a short while.

It's a shame that he died so young. Drugs often kill. His first movie was great. "Scent of a women" with Al Pacino. Loved it.
To your above list I would add John Belushi and Andy Kaufman

Tony I agree with you about Belushi, he definitely killed himself with drugs.

I think Kaufman died of cancer, though. If he's really dead. Andy Kaufman was known for pulling the biggest pranks and while I think he died back in the day, but there are some people who believe faking his own death is his biggest prank of all. He was one strange dude.

If you get a chance to see it, there's an old movie starring Jim Carrey about Kaufmans life and death called Man in the Moon, or Man on the Moon, something like that.

I have to admit I've never ever heard of this guy but then again TV & movies aren't my forte. I can't believe how all the cable channels and networks are playing this story up, however. It's as if some druggie actosr stupidity was actually important to the world. He OD'ed, get over it, there are a hundred more just as good behind him, some whom, hopefully, aren't as dumb!

Of all the things we've written about PSH, the one at we haven't mentioned is that there are three small children who had a father last week, and are now without a father. Maybe that's the biggest tragedy of all.

He reportedly loved them, spent a lot of time with them, took them to the park...

Apparently his love for his kids was not enough to keep him from killing himself because he knew the risks.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a gifted actor. He was so compelling that I often forgot I was watching a movie. He often played tortured souls. My favorite film is Flawless, with Robert De Niro. He played a trans-gender drag singer. His performance was amazing. Phillip was a tortured soul. He gave so much of himself. I hope he is at peace. I will miss him. My heart goes out to his family.
