What can be done that would actually make a difference in gun violence?

    Chet you know the answer!

Start thanking the crooked "lawyers" here who can't/refuse to read what the "second amendment" says.

As the article states, "when adjusted for age fluctuations, that represents a total of 12 deaths per 100,000 people – up from 10.1 in 2010 and the highest rate since 1996."

That compares with gun related death rates of 0.2 deaths per 100,000 people in Japan, 0.3 in the UK, 0.9 in Germany and 2.1 in Canada.

We have discussed this topic extensively in this website, to go with informed public discourse after every mass shooting. But the fact is that the gun lobby led by the gun manufacturers, the NRA, and Fox News has continued to the hold the upper hand in the messaging...or maybe I should say propaganda.

Even "common sense" gun regulations proposed by moderates in the Republican Party get spun as an attack on second amendment rights. We have discussed all kinds of ideas in this website. Politicians likewise have sought common ground on even very modest proposals, but none seem to get traction to go anywhere. It needs to be made an issue for the 2020 election, but Trump and his propaganda machine will make it a positive issue for him..."liberals want to take away your guns...your freedom...and blah, blah, blah." I am not hopeful but we need to keep trying.

We just passed the anniversary of a horrific event (the Sandy Hook shooting), which did not actually accomplish much in terms of better gun control, but 2018 finally started a trend, and part of the reason is a red-headed Russian named Maria Butina. Here's "the rest of the story":

Trump said he's for background checks, his buddies Lapierre and McConnell are not so far. None seem to be on the same page. In a few weeks, (congress on vacation) all will be forgotten until the next mass shooting. I mean, if little children were killed, (20 children-Sandy Hook) and nothing was done, what makes anyone think Mexicans being killed in El Paso (22) will make any difference?

I also noticed that when Trump spoke in El Paso, he flashed the white power hand sign repeatedly.

Dock, yes, just as you said nothing will change; go in any "black" ally and you can buy an AR 15 or an AK 47 and get a few "free" clips with it!

Common sense gun laws have nothing to do with gun violence. Common sense gun laws is just a front for a possible stand that can be achieved. Then the the supporters can take credit for getting "Common sense gun laws". Don't forget Al gore being defeated by the gun issue and don't forget the Bradley effect. The number of people supporting gun laws publicly can be cut greatly by the people that are lying to pollsters. Just like they did when Trump was running. People were ashamed to admit they were supporting Trump so they lied to pollsters. Clinton lost Congress in the mid terms because of his assault weapon ban, says Clinton himself. New laws are needed that will curb violence but they will affect the sensibilities. Pushing for laws that are political victories but don't stop gun violence can push or let a President to call for Marshal Law.

How come that they can get rid of assault weapons within a couple of weeks in New Zealand. But of course not in an country where the leader is himself an "mob boss" who loves to get the "votes" from the gun owners. Hallejuja!!

Mc Connell probably went to home depot and purchased a pair of knee pads for himself, he'll need them when he goes to the oval office to talk to trump about gun laws.
