Drought conditions in California are very bad. It's making the fighting of fires even harder. A recent/current fire was said to have been started by three men who were camping. They started throwing newspaper onto a campfire and things got out of control.
The news reported a couple of days ago that the satellite images of the mountains in California show that the amount of snow received this year was a small fraction of what is normally received. This is expected to add to the problem.

How awful things are getting, due to "global warming" -- & yet the right-wing still sticks to the same old story, that nothing is new, it is all the same old & same old. I guess it would cost the billionaires a few bucks to work on curing the problem, so they would rather let the country "burn" instead of trying to solve it. After all, their money is safe, in flame-proof vaults in their Swiss Bank Accts, overseas. (Free of taxes, too).

Tony you are right, this is supposed to be the middle of the wet season and it is bone dry out there.

The California drought has the potential to be the biggest story of 2014. It's not too late, they could still get rain but they already have a huge problem. And their dry season is about to start.

More people using and sometimes fighting for resources does not bode well for this earth.

Yes you are right; it is now freezing in FL; which is normally not the case either; so the weather is totally screwed up on the globe.

People from the Netherlands tell me things are starting to bloom; while normally this does not start until April. So what can we do as humans? I guess not much, unless we go back to the stone age and just use nature the same as animals in order to get nature back in balance..

Lake in Cali is at 20% full because of the drought. Interesting story in the above link.
In another clip I saw on the weather channel, they showed how the marina on this lake has all of the floating boat slips sitting on dry ground.
All of the boats had to be removed to a parking lot weeks ago.
A once under water gold mining ghost town is now again revealed due to the drought.

The Southwest of the U.S. is basically a semi-desert and people should not be living there in the numbers that do live there. California cities basically steal water from interior rivers diverting it from downstream users while Arizona, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico are drawing down their aquifers at an alarming rate. The midwest and upper midwest always had good underground aquifers, but we are now in the process of destroying these sources of potable water by indiscriminate and poorly controlled (on purpose) fracking thereby polluting these sources.

This is what happens when engineers are not heeded. They caution against building in fragile areas - barrier beaches, river floodplaines, earthquake prone faultlines, etc. They also caution against injecting noxious chemicals into underground rock formations or build toxin producing refineries and chemical works near drinking water sources or fail to properly inspect and maintain oil and tar sand pipelines. But politics and money overule the measured advice of the engineers.

I guess we can always invade Canada for its inviting and vast water resources so that retirees in Arizona can water New England style lawns and play golf on greens in Texas and California that shouldn't be there.

Accordingly, mankind is supposed to be the caretakers of the world, but instead greed and selfish ambitions are leading into disaster of human existence. You can say "oh, here comes chicken little again", crusading what mankind should be doing and that the sky is falling, but in reality , we are just beginning to see the horror about to come. Please, explore the notion of what will happen when water dries to less than human needs, what will happen when food shortages occur, and what will happen around the world when super powers start looking for resources into other countries that have them? War, that's what will happen. Scientists have been trying to get our attention for decades on our world. We are exhausting the resources and we are strangling our basic necessities with toxic management. Greed and selfish ambition of a few wealthy people are ignorant of the rest of population. They deny the damages being done, just like they deny Global Warming. To date, almost all scientists now are convinced that world industries are impacting the environment. A chain effect is occurring from our lifestyles to industry and many believe that the world is too big, to allow destruction on mankind. If we take the life of a cockroach, learn from it, we might survive while the earth recovers from our damaging ways. Cave dwelling may be in our near future.

Eat hearty, live hard, keep throwing away the trash and toxic materials, deny the planet signs telling us to stop and we all will see more killing, murder, fighting for resources, dehumanizing behaviors and WAR. It's all in our future, unless people on this planet change our ways. It may be too late, but it will not hurt our chances to start. That is why scientists are dumbfounded on how we got here so quick and since the problem is so gigantic, scientists have been slow to react. Politicians don't count, they too stupid to recognize the impending damage. Politicians only exist to continue careers, receive enormous funding, and please the greedy and selfish who give them large favors.

Go ahead with earth fracking, pollute the sky with noxious gases, deplete the ozone layers, dump toxic material and continue with the use of coal and oil...............you haven't seen anything, yet.
