My favorite was actually the Fresno State QB Derek Carr. But, he didn't have the best bowl performance. So, he didn't even make the final cut. The finalists have been announced a few days ago:
Florida State QB Jameis Winston
Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch
Auburn RB Tre Mason
Alabama QB AJ McCarron
Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel
Boston College RB Andre Williams
Apparently, Jameis Winston is the clear favorite. It was reported that he got something like 45% of the initial votes. If that's true, then he is a lock to win. I would have thought the controversy surrounding him would have hurt his chances more. But, he was acquitted of any charges. So, I guess that's good enough.
Of those 6, (six being the most finalists for a heisman since 1994), I personally would vote Jordan Lynch. I think that the other candidates benefit from a "plug-in-play a star player in this program here". Alabama QBs will automatically always get consideration. Same with Florida teams. And Auburn. But a team like Northern Illinois, you have to really perform well to even get consideration. The other side of that argument though is that Lynch played in the much easier conference, with a cushier schedule. Fair. But, I like the underdogs anyways.
