NASA just launched an unmanned orbiter called 'Maven' to Mars from Cape Canaveral in Florida on 11/18/13. The goal of this mission is to try and gain further understanding on just what happened to Mars' atmosphere over its history. It is widely believed that Mars used to have an atmosphere that produced water. And, where there's water, many assume the building blocks to life could have been there as well. But, the mission is not, from what I can tell at least, to discover if life ever existed on Mars. It is to understand and determine what changed in Mars' atmosphere over the last few billion years to turn it into what it is today.

If all goes well, Maven should be in Mars' orbit this time next year.
