The Senate is poised to poised today to move forward on the "nuclear option", which will prevent further obstruction by the Republicans on the President's cabinet picks and judiciary appointments:
In a perfect world, the Democrats and Republicans should be able to work together towards common goals, as they have in the past, but the extremists in the Republican Party have now made that impossible.
One of the worst offenders is Mitch McConnell, who's had some good coverage so far on this forum. As of August of 2013, he has led an astonishing 420 filibusters since becoming Senate minority leader in 2007. The link below provides more details on how he has "cashed in" on his obstructionism:
I'm old enough that I remember when "payola" was a big scandal for radio stations in the late 1950's, and McConnell proves it is still thriving today.
At this point in time, polls indicate that Alison Lundergan Grimes is TIED with Mitch McConnell in Kentucky. In spite of the McConnell's cheesy campaign to discredit her, my opinion is that she is going to prevail in next year's Senate election.
Unfortunately, the folks in Kentucky are stuck with Rand Paul for at least 3 more years.
