Categories: Donald Trump
Donald Trump cited a story from Sputnik, a Russian propaganda newspaper, in an attempt to prove that Hillary Clinton was responsible for the 2012 Benghazi attacks. Trump told held up a piece of paper before his audience and read quotes from the propaganda piece that claimed Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal wrote that the attack was preventable and laid blame on Secretary Clinton. Trump then let the paper fall to the ground. Blumenthal didn't actually write that email Trump quoted because it was written by Newsweek reporter Kurt Eichenwald. It was Sputnik that either intentionally or unintentionally mis-attributed the quote to Bluemthal, but Trump didn't seem to be aware of that.
