To promote the start of the second season of en:Boardwalk EmpireBy: Autopilot
HBO has announced that it will take one last stroll on the Boardwalk of Atlantic City. The show has been a great success over the last few years, with four seasons already completed and aired. I recently finished the the fourth season and let me tell you, it's no joke. If you haven't seen the show, without giving anything away, you are in for a vicious treat. The show is filled with just about anything a viewer could want. I'm not sure as to if they are wanting to end the show after five seasons for any particular reason, or if it what meant to be a 5 season show to start with. Either way, I and many others are going to be sad to see it go.

The HBO show is a period piece from the prohibition era. Set in the charming, yet dangerous Atlantic City, New Jersey. It gives viewers a nail-biting look into the violence, and play making shot callers of the original gangster era.

A few of my favorite and main actors on this show include:

Steve Buscemi as Enoch "Nucky" Thompson
Michael Pitt as James "Jimmy" Darmody
Shea Whigham as Elias "Eli" Thompson
Stephen Graham as Al Capone
Michael Shannon as Nelson Van Alden/George MuKelly
Kelly Macdonald as Margaret Schroeder/Thompsoneller

One thing I was surprised to find out about this show after watching, is that Mark Wahlberg is the executive producer. Although I don't love everything Wahlberg does, I have to give him this one. Everyone on the show has done an amazing job to recreate what history shows has taken place. It give you a first hand perspective as if you were there yourself.

It's very easy to turn a great show into a bad one for me with distasteful violence. But I can honestly say, they have hit the nail on the head (with a brick, lamp, bat, and pistol in some cases) with this one. The fifth season has been scheduled to air sometime this fall, and I encourage anyone who likes drama, period pieces, or just good ole-fashioned gangster films to check it out.
