Picture for a moment that you were in a car accident, but luckily survived. Thankful for being able to walk away from such a terrible occurrence, you go searching for help. Knocking on someone's door for assistance, you breathe a sigh of relief knowing that aid will soon be on its way. But instead of a friendly gesture of humanity, you're greeted instead with a gunshot to the face. That's the horrific scenario of what happened to young 19-year-old Renisha McBride on Nov. 2nd in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. And to add insult...

When I hear people discuss the civil rights movement, I often pause to listen. No matter how well they may know the history of non-violent marches, Martin Luther King Jr.'s leadership, segregation, police brutality, boycotts, water hoses, bulldogs and more, they often speak of the struggle in a past tense. It's as if the fight for equality is somehow over and Dr. King's dream fully realized.

No justice, no peace. In the most devastating and detrimental blow to Americans, the electoral process and our Constitutional right to vote, the Supreme Court has struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Section 4, which maps the areas that must have pre-clearance from the federal government before making any changes to their voting laws, was ruled 'unconstitutional' in a 5-4 decision today, and the ball was thrown into Congress' court.
