Dr. Mark Weisbrot of the Center for Economic Policy and Research argues that basic economic logic requires that Congress extend unemployment benefits. Citing the "collapse of private demand – consumption and investment – brought on by the bursting of an $8 trillion housing bubble that put us in this mess," Weisbrot concludes that only government spending will give the economy the necessary boost until private spending is sufficient to bring us back to full employment.

The unemployment extension bill is currently being discussed by the Senate and a lot of people are becoming uneasy with the constant delays.
