Republicans have had an ongoing war on Planned Parenthood even though no federal funds are used for abortion and only 3 percent of their total funds goes towards abortion services. So Republicans in effect are really attacking the other 97 percent...women's health...cancer screenings and birth control.

Now I don't think Republicans have anything against cancer screenings, but the hard core Christian right of the party is adamantly opposed to even that 3 percent that they cannot control..that and birth control. House Republicans have twice passed bills this past year defunding Planned Parenthood, and I expect they'll do it again...right before the November election to remind their base where they stand.

So now they are putting pressure on the benefactors of Planned Parenthood including working inside organizations like the Susan G. Komen charity to come up with excuses for cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. Much of the focus for the Komen decision to cut their funding has been on Karen Handel, a former secretary of state in Georgia and a Republican activist against abortion, who was hired by Komen in April as vice president of public policy. According to the L.A. Times: "Handel has made no bones about her anti-abortion -- and anti-Planned Parenthood -- position. In a July 2010 blog post, Handel explained, "since I am pro-life, I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood ... In fact, state and federal law prohibits the use of taxpayer funds for abortions or abortion related services and I strongly support those laws. Since grants like these are from the state I’ll eliminate them as your next Governor.""

Does someone with such strong anti-abortion views even belong at Komen? Why was she hired? Whatever the reason, the Komen decision has raised the bar on the Republican's attacks against Planned Parenthood.

Social media sites meanwhile are condemning the decision by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity to cut funding for Planned Parenthood.

Whatever one wants to read into the Komen decision, we cannot escape the fact that it is just one part of what has been described in some circles as the Republican War on Women. Unfortunately, some Republican women don't see it that way:

"The Lord says: Be submissive, wives. You are to be submissive to your husbands." -- Michelle Bachmann quoting scripture.

I'll quit now. Maybe women would be better able to provide more insightful commentary.

Komen has reversed their cut in funding and apologized. It's a testament to what opposite pressure can be brought to bear by a unified response from women of all political affiliations and religions...that a few won't dictate to the majority. Many Republican women do indeed support Planned Parenthood because they are women first...and Americans...not the dogmatic old white men in Congress that seem to want to score political points with their base at every opportunity.

Many cheers to Komen for reversing their decision to cut funding. I am so glad that one female employee was not allowed to dominate with her opinion of female issues at that foundation. It is possible that she joined Komen for the express purpose of defunding reproductive "choice" in any way she could. The right wing is "inscrutable." It is so nice to have articles here by an enlightened man, such as Schmidt. Always thoughtful, respectful, intellectually honest.

While it certainly seems apparent that the Christian Right put pressure on Komen to defund planned Parenthood, their subsequent reversal and apology has now resulted in a backlash by the Christian right against the women who pressured Komen into making the reversal.

Rush Limbaugh said on his talk show program that Komen has "caved big time to the feminazis at Planned Parenthood..." If you care to listen to the angry Rush Limbaugh talk about the decision, Media Matters has the 45 second clip below:

Limbaugh Angry That "Feminazis" At Planned Parenthood Put Pressure On Komen

I haven't heard any Republicans condemn Limbaugh for his statement.

ProLife? Not so!
How can the Republicans and Tea Party members call themselves "pro-life" when what they mean is that they are truly only against women's choices regarding prevention of pregnancy and abortion. When one realizes that the extreme right wing members are also against food stamps, medical care for the poor, and Medicaid, it shows that they do not care what happens to the mothers or their babies after the forced pregancy and birth.

Perhaps it has escaped notice that the very rich have always had freedom of choice. Clearly, Tea Partiers and Republicans are directing their efforts to ban choices to the very poor and the working poor, Even many so-called "middle class" women would have little choice if these ideas became law.

Democrats, liberals and many others truly are pro-choice, which is not to say that they want every woman to have an abortion. They simply want all women to have the same rights as the very rich.

One must understand the GOP/GOP campaign marketeers aka "strategists"...remember watergate...and God alone knows what else but we suspect...GOP is ALWAYS about MONEY/POWER...ALWAYS; once one accepts the extent of their lust/worship of mammon as the cynical tool of power, one can acquire the appropriate perspective and lens through which to view them. GOP on one hand likes to play "the religious card" [that gathers the naive who cling to religion like cultists AND puts on a mask which no one dare toy with lest they be accused/condemned by church business institutions for 'attacking faith'; only those of true Faith see through 'the pretenders'] whilst actually, behind the scenes, they are pursuing amoral and anti- faith/anti- democracy goals. AND, don't forget, the business institutions of religion collectively are a huge pot of cash into which the GOP campaigns can dip their dirty hands as long as they appear "religiosity -driven".

With that preamble, ... GOP is attacking/has attacked/always attack "SOFT TARGETS", especially those upon which an attack can be disguised as "religious", where they can EASILY SLASH/REDIRECT government funding; note I say "REDIRECT GOVERNMENT FUNDING". I have lived through the last 40-50 years of GOP shenanigans and duplicity: GOP NEVER cut taxes for the low-middle income, GOP ALWAYS cut and/or eliminated funding for the poor and ALWAYS raised the "ELIGIBILITY BAR" on programs so that many for whom the federal assistance programs, MANAGED BY THE POLITICIZED STATES, were eliminated from eligibility for the assistance, thereby turning low income people against the poor/very low income...stopping just short of eliminating the federal assistance programs altogether.

ALWAYS REMEMBER: GOP protect their MONEY, believe they have a right to KEEP ALL OF IT, no matter how they got it [aka slavery, fraud, theft, etc]; in that, the GOP are no different than hitler's nazi party: i.e., LABEL A SOFT TARGET GROUP, DEMONIZE THEM, MARGINALIZE THEM, DISPOSSESS THEM, ...ENSLAVE THEM AND DISAPPEAR/DISPOSE OF THEM...while taking their resources to enrich party members.

BETTER QUESTION: why is planned parenthood a soft target ? because the religious cultist business institutions [with treasure chests] have a wish list they want worked, for which they are willing to pay, and "family planning" is one of them. BONUS to GOP: not only do they get paid by religious business institutions, but also, they get to redirect government funding from a program for the poor to ...pet projects which garnish GOP votes, military industry complex intersts, and taxcuts for the wealthiest. MAKE NO MISTAKE, many GOP women have covertly managed their own reproduction by various means, including abortions written up by friendly family doctors as "D&C's" [dilation & curretage, allegedly necessary to 'clean out the womb' of an already miscarried entity/faulty womb lining]; the poor have babies birthed into poverty-enslavement or get backstreet abortion procedures which leave them infertile/dead. GOP win in all three cases: the ability to reproduce for the poor is minimized by infertile women, dead women, and, a very cheap labor pool of children born in poverty is garnered into poverty-enslavement, i.e., workers without rights, workers afraid to demand rights, workers willing to be abused, workers willing to be underpaid...homegrown...rather than the less-desireable alternative cheap slave labor of illegal immigrants, who carry a host of problems, all of which end up costing the government money which is subtracts from thefederal 'pot of gold' which the GOP is always plotting to rob.

THROUGH THESE GLASSES, look at every GOP party campaign slogan, argument, legislation, justification...and it all looks the same, sounds the same, and GOP "stuff" just gets bigger and uglier, like a cancerous, oozing sore on the face of US Constitutional Democracy, distorting the visage of the USA.

JFK was murdered, RFK was murdered, LBJ was 'neutralized' after he fully engaged the vietnam war, satisfying the military industry complex, while establishing his "Great Society" and fully funding all the programs, fully entitling the poor, the low income, the lower middle income by defining their eligibility for federal assistance of federal programs. After LBJ's 'departure',
newt gingrich came along with his "state's rights" [ironically, the US Constitution was written to deny power to ANY government which did not SERVE ALL INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS EQUALLY, yet gingrich usurped the power/rights of INDIVIDUAL Citizens to empower GOP-politicized states, and no one objected !] ...whereby, through GOP-political influence, the funding for each federal program was
given to each of fifty states to "ADMINISTER" ...by which, GOP-politicized states then dumped all the program funding into their state treasury, where the GOP politicians could then steal and redirect the moneys intended to fund federal services for the poor/low income/lower middle income of the state, just like any criminal money-laundering operation business process whereby stolen money/money gathered from criminal activities could be redirected to other business interests, usually with political/financial rewards, and appear legitimate to the naive onlooking public/general oversight. AND, this is STILL going on, all across the USA, across every level of government and abusing every federal program, with the end game: DIVIDE AND CONQUER THE UN-WEALTHY VOTERS, i.e., turn them against each other by making upper-low income/lower middle income ineligible for federal programs assistance which they need, which programs were designed to help them as well as the poorest rise up into the middle middle class. NOW _THAT_ IS CLASS WARFARE, GOP-style. For, the GOP game is to turn one american voter against the other, while unifying ONLY their GOP-voting constituents with duplicities when/where necessary as in the religious businesses/industry. The GOP are masters of starting hostilities which ultimately are deadly, injurious, fatal to others, so that they, the GOP walk away with seeming clean hands, but in fact, they are complicit and usually instrumental as well. Add to this behavior trait of the GOP
the military industry complex financial/business interests and all of a sudden, one sees/hears Eisenhower's last state of the union speech warning the USA of the danger to US Constitutional Democracy with keener senses, and it takes on a heightened, more relevant and significant meaning.

I am woman first and a Republican second. When Komen reversed it's decision on supporting abortion I have made the hard decision of pulling my suppost of them. From now on I will only support The American Cancer Society. There are just as many voices out there upset that Komen gave in to the Democrats and now support killing human beings, but no one in main stream media has reported that story. The news is so biased!

The American "Religious Right" rose to political power in 1982 with Ronald Reagan, and it wasn't long before they pushed several political issues, especially the ones on which they felt they held the high moral ground (at least according to their religious beliefs).

The Reaganite "Gospel of Prosperity" was part of it, which falsely claims that the rich are blessed by God and the poor deserve their lot because they are merely "lazy."

War on "godless secular humanists" and "godless liberals" was part of it, along with other issues -- all pushed claiming God was on their side and that Christians should rule (even though their theocratic political action violated Article 6 and the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, and the obvious intent of the Founding Fathers.

But, the war on Roe v Wade (which was passed to legalize abortion to reduce the death rate of women, reduced child abuse rates, and rates of domestic violence and poverty), and the war on Planned Parenthood has been waged by the hypocritical Republican leaders of the Religious Right mostly because they really thought they had a winner with this issue. And they have -- so far.

But, while the Religious Right has been tremendously successful politically, to the extent that they control many local school boards and made being a Christian a de facto litmus test for being a viable presidential candidate, they are WRONG ABOUT ALMOST EVERYTHING. (And regarding Planned Parenthood, read http://messenger2.cjcmp.org/abortion.html)

I myself am an Independent, but I want everyone Dem,Repub,Indep,or other to check out the founder of Plan Parenthood, read her books and tell me there wasn't a different plan than everyone is saying today. I want go into details I just don't want you to be blinded by corporate media ie Fox,CNN,ABC,CBS, etc. Read it from the author's word. don't let it be spent into what the media say it is. be wise enough to make your own decision.
