Whatever the personal opinion of Republican candidates about Castro, or whatever prompted them to make those remarks during their debates, it seems logical and rational, even legitimate that Castro responded to those remarks as he did.

America has been successful at foreign policy, if at all, in part because of its ability to harmonize their interests with those of other nations, with respect for the sovereignty of other nations, and a command of the diplomatic stature required in such foreign affairs.

Diplomacy and statesmanship are learned aptitudes; we are not born with them, and they do not come naturally.

To ignore the needs of diplomacy and statesmanship by mature elected officials is truly playing with fire, and can cause unnecessary conflict and expense to Americans, even unto starting wars, and preventing peace.

America has never needed to be the biggest bully in the foreign affairs playground, and it should not sanction that privilege for it would undermine all principles upon which the U.S.A. was founded.

Therefore, the Castro response to Republican remarks during their debate are defensible, and appropriate in his objections to their public defamation and hateful insolence; if they would not be acceptable coming from Presidents, they certainly should not be acceptable coming from candidates. They show a lack of readiness to be President, and that should be a concern to all Americans for the attitudes that will be carried into the White House by those who run for the office.

The Huffington Post covered Castro's response to the Republican candidates' remarks.

Whatever our feelings about Castro, Romney's and Gingrich's comments were totally inappropriate...as were Pat Robertson's call to assassinate Castro. But they seem all to pile on President Obama as well. It's a reflection of the sad state of affairs within the Republican Party right now. Off hand, I can't recall either Bush I or Bush II or Reagan ever making comparable remarks about foreign leaders for political gain.

Amadinejad is fully behind Castro, birds of a feather?
