Great promises, Mr President. I am making a list. Hopefully Pelosi and Reid made a list and will get the corresponding respective legislations up for vote by January 30 2012, so that the annual speech prompts annual action, i.e., all the corresponding legislation is enacted by February 2012 and fully functional throughout 2012 to start the creative rebuilding of the nation.

As for Mitch Daniel's GOP reply, the GOP policies and activities created the deficit, now it is disingenuous to disavow ownership. Simply "cutting government to cut the deficit" doesn't fix the country. The usual 'accounting for profit' asset stripping and cutting workers whose job it is to perpetually roll out the strategic plan/new projects/building-fixing just doesn't fix this nation...what it promises is to deliver the last blow to utterly destroy the USA.

Any problems passing legislation to enact the state of the union promises, put it to the people for an online vote.

GOP who don't want to live in the USA rebuilt can always leave, or form their own GOP-country.

Bill Gates, in London enroute to Davos, told BBC this morning that he, warren buffet et al. fully agree with increasing tax rates on millionaires and billionaires, AND, helping those who are struggling to put food on the table, maintain good health among their family members and provide advanced education for those with ability ...otherwise, the future is in question...

I thought it was a good speech, but even before the speech was released, the Republicans were bad mouthing it. Speaker Boehner appeared on Fox News labeling it "pathetic" before the speech was released. So I expect that it'll be another year of a do nothing Congress as every one of Obama's proposals will be blocked.

Going back to the transcript of the speech, I'll extract a few lines that I liked pertaining to tax incentives for creating jobs and trade with China:

If you're a business that wants to outsource jobs, you shouldn't get a tax deduction for doing it.

No American company should be able to avoid paying its fair share of taxes by moving jobs and profits overseas.

From now on, every multinational company should have to pay a basic minimum tax. And every penny should go towards lowering taxes for companies that choose to stay here and hire here in America.

If you're an American manufacturer, you should get a bigger tax cut. If you're a high-tech manufacturer, we should double the tax deduction you get for making your products here. And if you want to relocate in a community that was hit hard when a factory left town, you should get help financing a new plant, equipment, or training for new workers.

I will go anywhere in the world to open new markets for American products. And I will not stand by when our competitors don't play by the rules. We've brought trade cases against China at nearly twice the rate as the last administration, and it's made a difference.

Tonight, I'm announcing the creation of a Trade Enforcement Unit that will be charged with investigating unfair trading practices in countries like China.

There is much more in the speech, but I wanted to focus on these points. Will the Republicans cooperate to achieve these goals?

Message to Democrats and Republicans: those who don't understand the accounting logic of the US dollar spreadsheet should not be allowed to make policy.

We are not Greece. We are not Spain. The USG is a sovereign issuer of the currency.

Nobody needs to "pick up the tab" for our national debt! The "tab" is what we use to pay our taxes, buy bonds, and pay for goods and services!

Don't you think if our federal government debt was a problem, we would have had a problem before it reached 13 trillion?

The interest payments on even a 10 year Treasury bond produce a negative yield for investors. Does this sound like a normal borrowing operation to you?

Balance budget ideology is an infection on both our parties.

"I will go anywhere in the world to open new markets for American products." Of course he will go anywhere! After all, he takes a vacation every three weeks--but no, don't let the Republican Congress
go on vacation! And as for calling the Republicans a do nothing congress, don't forget it was Obama
who would only vote "present" whenever a bill came up. Remember Obama's famous words: "IT'S NOT
MY FAULT!"

Sugarbaire,

I hesitate to even engage you, since you are obviously one of those that probably lives within the Fox News bubble of misinformation, fear and hate. Fox News of course uses everyone of Obama's vacations to make an issue of him taking time off, but his vacation time dwarfs that of George Bush who routinely used Air Force 1 to fly his entire entourage to and from his ranch in Crawford. The fact is that all Presidents are accompanied by secret service agents, critical staff, and reporters everywhere they go. Obama gets criticized for taking a day trip.

The liberal media criticized Bush not so much for the cost of his vacation trips but for the fact that he took so much vacation time...four times more than Obama. He took Air Force One 77 times (490 total days) to just go to his ranch in Crawford, TX. Obama, I believe, has made only two vacation trips to Hawaii with Air Force One.

On the issue of voting present, it is a common practice, a tactical strategy, used in the Illinois legislature. Obama used it slightly more than 3 percent of the time on the over 4,000 votes he cast. Just putting that Fox New talking point into perspective.

And calling the Republican Congress "do nothing" is appropriate. Whereas "Experts Rank Pelosi Among Greatest House Speakers" for her accomplishments as Speaker, John Boehner will go down in history as one of the worst, not entirely his fault as he has been unable to control the radical Tea Party segment within his party.

But isn't anyone else concerned about their three day work week?

Balanced Budget is the ONLY thing that is going to save this country. Are you kidding?
Do you think Warren Buffett and Bill Gates got where they are by spending more than they took in??
COME ON HARRY, LEAD and get a budget passed.
IF the Senate can't agree with the Congress on a balanced budget, then maybe THEY should just NOT GET PAY CHECKS until they do! Maybe we should not borrow money to pay your salaries.
I hope that the bickering stops soon or this gal will become Independent.
Wake up!
